8.64 metres per carry is bloody marvellous for a second row playing at prop. You are out of line on this one. Started like a house on fire and nobody could have maintained that standard, especially after switching from second row to prop and then dealing with the heavy traffic in the middle.
When he' s no longer propping and we have reinforcements in that position he'll be scoring again and offloading for fun. It's not like he played badly on Friday. Our entire pack really fronted up to Leeds and we had no protection from the referee all night.

Agreed. TP, Eastmond and Flanno were our best for me.

| Excellent display from TP. 14 tries this season is also an outstanding return for a player who has predominantly played at prop forward.

Tony p played the last 2 years in nrl as a prop.
IMO it's his best postion. He makes good yards and is very very big.
I think a big problem with tony p this year is that he's had to play a lot of mins without getting a rest because maurie and JC been injured all year.
I think if saints bring in a top class prop(luke bailey) then jammer, tony p, maurie, luke bailey would be very good set of props.

| I must put my hand up and admit he was better last night.
I still don't see him as good as some of you guys say but he put his hand up last night.
Fair play to him.
I do agree though that he will be better if he plays more in the second row but with Soli-whatsit being talked about as a 2nd row I can't see he'll get much game time there.
We'll see the jury is still out.

| Played well on Saturday but he still seems to play within himself on too many occasions.
He could be one of the best in the business if he wanted to be but, too often, when in intense battles, he shirks his duties as a prop and leaves it to smaller, less appropriate players to carry the ball up. I've lost count of the amount of times I have been shaking my head in disbelief at him not taking the ball up in a set of six and you see him hanging back, hands on hips. Is he unfit or is he lazy? I don't know but watch a set of six and see it happen.
The tools are all there but when it's raining or when the battle gets intense, he likes to keep out of doing the dirty stuff. He has made a lot of metres this year, that is an indisputable fact, but he would be the top metre maker if his application matched his ability.

Is it a case of him shirking duties ar Jammer being a little selfish in always taking the ball up. It was noticable that in games were Jammer hasnt played that Tony P has been a lot more involved and been the main go to man.
It might also be tactics in that jammer is workhorse with Tony P being used as the big hitter. Certainly the was Tony P is spelled points out to me that he is being used as an impact forward.
For this role he has done an outstanding job, being 3rd best metre maker in SL, and scoring 14 trys which is phenominal for a prop.
Looking back at some old Cas matches Wardy was used in the same role. Beefie England or Martin ketteridge did all the hard graft but Wardy then did the big devastating run.

The trouble is, Tony P's 'devastating' runs were scattering the opposition earlier in the season whereas they don't now.
There is so much more to Rugby League than statistics and their relevance is over stated. In the early part of the season he was scattering the opponents whereas the metres he might make now are not taking as much energy out of the opposition.
I suppose he made a rod for his own back by his early season form and, bugger the statistics, he just hasn't hit those heights since. I don't need Opta to tell me that. I can see it with my own eyes.
For me, he doesn't take enough pressure off Graham. Graham is burning himself into the ground whilst Tony frequently stands by watching James take it up three times in a set while he hides behind the second rowers.
Quite frankly, at times, he infuriates me because he could be every bit as influential if he wanted to be.
He has a great try scoring record for a prop (albeit only having played half his games there) but not quite as good as Caville Heugh's was.

Cayless was playing up until Leeds away in the cup and Maurie was fit too.
No surprise to see TP's form dip later in the year with both Maurie and Cayless out - he won't be "scattering" the opposition if we've only got one prop to help tire them out first.
No surprise to see him have a good game on Saturday with Maurie back and I think we can expect more of the same for the rest of the year and even more next year with Fozzie (and hopefully A N Other) in the mix.
Put a stronger pack around him, you'll see some scattering don't worry about that, but I think he's been excellent anyway in the circumstances.

Points that I take on board but with the lack of other props surely he should be doing more work not less.
The absence of other props mean that we need him to look for the ball much more, not go hiding behind his team mates when the opposition look useful or, more noticeably, when the weather is not to his favour.

Fair enough, I guess it's all about opinion, but he's carried the ball 60% more than Bryn in the same number of games and Bryn is viewed as a workhorse prop and TP is viewed as lazy.
Each to their own though.

I was very impressed with potter's use of him earlier in the season. The warrington game sticks in my head easpecially. He was off the pitch and had been for some time and things were tight, I was ranting and raving, but Potter held him back and, sure enough, when he did re-appear was devastating.
If you want hiim to be a prop, I'd say use him as impact from the bench (perhaps let Maurie start until fozz arrives). Otherwise, leave him as a destructive 2nd row.

Don't you think that the gradual improvements in defences and levels of fitness, as the season has worn on, might have something to do with why he isn't shattering defences left, right and centre now.
