As a netral I was amazed none of the Sky team questioned the GIdley try as grounded the ball short and then was held up over the line. yEt this was my commented on by anybody not even the so called expert Cummins. Then after consulting the video for 40/20's and other non-try scoring decisions, he takes the advice of the touch judge and ignores a knock on for one of the WIre tries. sUrely the time has come for all awarded tries to be automatically checked upstairs?

That's exactly why tonight was tough to accept. We're so bloody awful, I can't believe we push you so hard, what a week era of Super League this is.

This is a good point - when they're assembling the scrum, the vid ref has a quick check and can overturn an in-play decision - there is no benefit of doubt system in place, its just a common sense option while there's time. When a try is scored, there is easily enough time between touch down and kick to check and get in touch with the mic.

Come on the amount of success Saints have had in the modern era, you can't expect to be the best all the time and bound to have some off seasons. I agree the standard has dropped though. We are not a patch on our 2011 team.

You will forgive us for enjoying the rare, delightfully delicious, feeling as we beat you to reach a GF and silence the "Always our year" chants from your fans for at least one week.

If we lose, we are used to it. We won't be bleating like spoilt children and anyway can always spend the off season polishing our hub cap. I suppose you lot can polish your Cunningham statue.

If the ref had ref'd the ruck properly we'd have been out of sight as you got away with an unbelievable amount of flops, were not square about a dozen times to your benefit and some of your moving off the mark was something to behold, I think Walmsley (has he played football by the way because his play-acting is pathetic?) moved about three metres forward from the mark on one occasion - and weren't penalised for anywhere near what your spoiling tactics should have been.

Had these been pulled up I doubt anyone would be moaning about the Lineham/Peyroux incidents because the margin would have been far greater as we'd have had far more dangerous field position to strike

I agree, we've not been good enough to get to a final, and it would have felt undeserved, but its the way that the defeat happened that I find difficult to overcome. I'd have preferred a comprehensive defeat against an on form Wire tonight. The consolation being that it would expose our shortcomings and show those in charge the recruiting that needs to be done, and I'd much prefer to spend my time doing that than sitting here feeling unsatisfied and hard done to. Cunningham and McManus will feel the same, and that is no good for our fans.

It should be a compliment that we're micky taking. It means a big deal to turn you over in that way and goes some small way to avenging those losses in the naughties. It's nice to see the tide turn against one of our greatest rivals and most successful clubs and that's supposed to be a compliment.

Saints fans should console themselves with the knowledge that they got this far by virtue of their teams fabulous skills, tactics, fitness, coaching, teamwork and exemplary adherence to the offside and play the ball rules, with no benefit of 50/50 calls, benefit of the doubt, luck or benevolence of the officials. Not only this but you have bravely and with complete dignity overcome the fact the RFL, Salvation Army, Cub Scouts and Bramley Ladies Knitting Circle are openly in cahoots against your club.

Thank goodness you are the torch bearers for all that remains good about our game, I doff my primrose and blue bobble hat to you.

Roby's the new Rooney I think. He's played too many 80 minutes over the seasons, often carrying us, and on top of his drive, now we're looking to him to be creative in a team so short of flair. He's trying to do the work of a forward and a scrum half and he's over extended and looks jaded.

There's truth in that comment: Oh how I used to love the nervous anticipation of returning to my car after any match at yours in the last twenty years or so (barring a couple of years) to see what damaged had been inflicted.

At the end of the day one had to stand and one had to fall, despite a few iffy decisions Saints weren't good enough and played very negative Rugby league.
