| Sadly it's not just defence. Our attack play is woeful and only for penalties we struggle to get anywhere near the opponents line.

| Are you seriously wanting Simmo out, On what basis? Do you have to win 100% of your games? This is planet Earth FCS. To be honest with you, I think you may have lost a little ground but you will get it back come June - July in the sunshine. Look at Salford for a comparison they have made massive progress this season butthere are no outright front runners in the first 5 weeks chill and lick your wounds

| I think it's too early in the season to write off Royce Simmons. But what I do want to know is if he has the guts to drop under performing players because he needs to. He also needs to kick backsides and not be softly softly. We are too soft. We have no props worthy of the name and our halves are confused.

| Surely the question "Is Simmons the right man?" needs to be considered in the context "who else would come in".
If he's better than what's available then he's the right man, if he's not then he's not.
Who would come in? Noble? Justin Morgan? Jon Sharp? Long?

| I can't understand why hes rotating early, he says Hudds and Wire did it last season.... yeah a fat load of good that did to them. He should be coming up with his own ideas rather than using failed methods from coaches the previous season who won nout! But I do like Royce and i think he will turn it round, but for me it's the team on the pitch the fault has to lie with. Foster being the major factor tonight he was poor, and I agree with the LMS attempted tackle which was a crap attempt. Plus we all know what referees do, it worried me getting so many penalties in the 1st half, 9 times out of 10 it gets evened up, which it did, and unfortunatly for us it didn't work out. Defence pathetic. Did he bother with defence this week?

| I said it last year he wasn't up to the job so it's no knee jerk reaction from me before all the Saints fans that see thru red v glasses chip in.
My concerns are as follows :
Tactics - the guy has none, I wonder what we've done in pre season as he's not brought in anything new and gets out thought by smart coaches.
Substitutions - I just can't work out this back on the bench that plays ten mins if he lucky. He takes players off with no thought. Today he brought laffranchci back on only 2 mins after halftime! The players just had 15 mins rest so why take someone off after 2 mins? It's waste of sub.
Rotation - IMO it's unreal! He moaned last year he can't play the sane team weeks on the bounce and now he's resting wingers! WTF was resting makinson last week all about? He's 20, fit as a fiddle and one of our best players!
Recruitment - we lose jammer who IMO is the best prop in the world and he replaces him with a 31 year old backrow who's a stranger to the prop postion. He had to replace him with the best prop he could get his hands on, not a old mate of his that ain't played prop. We lose eastmond and replace him with a world cup winning kiwi international FULLBACK who's hardly played halfback for past 10 years!
Defence - worst I've seen for long long time . Simple!
Attack - same old crap move which is totally predictable. If the players don't pull off the cuff rugby we don't score.
Motivation - for me this is the big one, he can't get us up for games, the players don't react to him and for me that's the bullet.
I like Royce as a guy and I know for fact he gives his all and puts every ounce off effort in to the job but he's not good enough. Let's get this idiot out before he ruins the club for years to come.

The reaction from some of our fans at times is embarrasing.
Yes there certainly are things wrong with the level of performance that do need to be sorted from the last two games but the overeaction at times to a defeat is unreal.

We are all over the place mate, the defence is shocking, the attack is off the cuff rugby.
We look like a poor coached team and I'm wiling to put my neck on the line to say hudds will put 30+ on us and Wigan and Warrington will score 50+
It's totally awful and this guys recruitment is shocking.

I'm not disagreeing with you that there are problems but calling for for some people to be calling for the sack after two games is a bit OTT.

The fact that we have been poor in every game this season inc Widnes in friendly. Holding healthy leads, losing them, p1ss poor tactics with the same shower of s h 1 t getting the games. Drop Foster, hes pants. Wello is past it lets be honest. Our signings are hardly exciting. I know teams need to gel but lets get real, after this seasons showing so far we look like we are going to have another trophyless season. I am going to Hudds and hope for a massive defensive improvement..I just can't see it! I hope I am wrong though.

I said it all last year but his dire coaching got brushed under the carpet from a grand final appearance but I remember the shocking performances we'd put in before that like kicking goals in last mind to win against poor poor teams

| I wouldn't renew his contract. He's tactically naive and we've not got enough attacking moves and look very predictable in attack and our defense is a mess. But I wouldn't sack him, I don't see the point. Royce had a poisoned chalice when he took over, just as Potter did. The stadium development has taken so much of the club's time, effort and though that the playing side has been neglected for the best part of 10 years. Senior, legendary players leaving and not being replaced and an annual net export of players.
Our recruitment has been horrific for years and questions need to be asked about who is making the decisions on this score? Is it all being done by Eamon? Or is Kel Koslett involved, or Mike Rush, or Keiron Purtill, or the incumbent coach? We need to get back to buying the best young English players, why didn't we bid for Ratchford, Hill, Hardaker etc? Those are the kind of players we would have signed previously and we wouldn't have wasted our overseas spots like we are doing now. Laffranchi, Hohaia, Meli (If he still is on any quota), Flannery, Perry? Would any of them be missed if they went home tomorrow? I doubt it.

Something tells me you have an axe to grind, or you wouldn't say you like the guy and then call him an idiot. Maybe he has tactical limitations, but an idiot? It's a shame when fans turn to personal insults about a bloke who is clearly doing his very best for the club.

I'm not even sure he has tactical limitations. We were in control of the game for the best part of 60 minutes. I would say it was more a case of implimentation than tactics, and that the fault lies entirely with the players.
Like Mark Flanagan said on Twitter just, the fans deserved more than what they tossed out to us in the second half last night.

You are correct, whwn the game was going according to gameplan saints were well on top, only when cats started to throw the ball about and move away from their plan did they get on top. At that stage the experience of the cats squad overtook the youth of saints and we couldn't stick with them. It's febatable whether that's the coaches fault or not. Either way we have up learn and move on, not chick the baby out with the bath water.

I do like Royce and have spoke to him few times and know he puts a lot of time and effort in off the field as well but I just don't rate him as a coach. He's just not good enough.
It is possible to like someone as a person but think they are crap at their job.
I was very surprised he didn't do his post match interview in hattons hospitality lounge last night but Gary wheeler made the effort. I think with the talk of no contract offer and not doing his post match intereview is a sign he's feeling pressure.

| I wouldn't renew his contract and would offer to give him a lift to the airport. The guy is probably a good assistant and talks a good game but thats it I think. His recruitment has been OK as he has added the experience we need plus they tried for Griffin but he went to Leeds because Saints wouldn't match there offer. I wont go into finances but I can assure you it really wasn't a lot more he was asking for. As for Simmons though Saints seem clueless in attack and I think that is down to wests, at wests he was working with Marshall (enough said) the only real move I have seen is the drop off back inside which is useless when overused and compared to the NRL we're moving like slugs and it's easily picked off. His sub policy is killing us and our defence is a joke. This isn't even a knee jerk reaction! Last year we were very poor at defending our own line and after listening to him at a fan forum last year it's no wander we never look up for a game he bored me half to death.
I hope McManus is roaming the globe looking for a good replacement cause I think we are on a downward spiral at the moment.

Robbie Paul made an interesting comment on last weeks SLS about edge defences not being set until after the first quarter of the season, that would explain the difference in the defence once Catalan started spreading the ball and testing our edge defence far more.

| All this after only one defeat... I dread to think what's coming from the knee-jerk brigade after we've lost a few more over the next few weeks and end up down in 6th or 7th place come May as will likely be the case...
Everyone needs to remind themselves - it simply doesn't matter how we're playing right now. Resting and rotating players as much as possible (as Royce is doing) at this point and saving ourselves for the business end of the season is what we should be concentrating on and picking up a few defeats along the way is all fine and dandy frankly, no matter how worrying the late collapses we're developing the habit of seem to be on the face of it. Royce showed me enough last season to prove that he knows what he's doing and I'll judge him based on our performance in September, not now. If we were dominating teams, looking rock-solid in defence and winning every game with ease now, THEN I'd start worrying... We looked a lot worse than we do now at the same stage of the season last year and that all turned out 'reet ultimately I think it's fair to say?

I would say he did exactly that last might by going with 3 props from the start, as oppose to the first couple of games where wilkin was 13.
