i believe ian (gobbo) smith gave rovers 2 penalties helping them score.
didnt he do the same against rovers at knowsley rd last year give them a penalty for them to win the game with a couple of minutes to go???

Was it Hull KR we were playing last year when Ian Smith gave them a penalty in front of the sticks right at the death (against Graham for not standing square), effectively gifting them the game?

Is Graham allowed to not stand square?

Yes. When the referee has been letting the same infringement go for 79 minutes, only to suddenly become worthy of a penalty when it suited him.

Blaming the ref sounds a bit pathetic to me. Presumably we gave him reason to give us penalties? I don't know because I wasn't there and could only rely on Ray French but if we give an excuse to a ref then sometimes he will take it.

It's a shame we lost - by a last minute try as well - but I can't say I'm surprised. We were down by six men already and now we have lost at least two more. I'm more concerned about this than anything else. This is the second season that we have been hit by a major run of injuries. It can't be a coincidence, surely?

Who blamed the ref? I merely stated that it is a major coincidence that the same thing happened last year, and for whatever reason Smith appears to dislike us (Anderson never moaned about the other referees, but often did about Smith). Refs aren't perfect and they all make mistakes, but is also human to fancy some teams and not others.

Fact is we should have had the game wrapped up 20 minutes earlier, but we did well considering the injuries in the backline.

Phil Kinsella has just said to a caller on Radio Manchester that we were not robbed but it seemed there were a couple of contraversial decisions go against us at the end. At the end of the day I am proud of the young lads who played today. We seem to have got all (hopefully) our injuries at the beginning of the season other teams will probably pick up theirs later in the season. Still a long way to go yet.

Saints probably conceeded the penalties due to fatigue through having to play with two men short for most of the match.

It would have nothing to do with a so called bent ref, such allegations are merely the deluded rantings of fans who cant accept their team have lost.

personally i'm not going to blame the ref for the game, i weren't there so don't know if they were justified or not, i think we're lowering ourselves to the trolls if we do that!!

i think it was an excellent performance in defeat, 5 first teamers missing and a squad player (ashurst) and losing wello and lomax leaving us down to 15 for most the game, against a team who are always strong at home (top 4 last year) and losing by one try after a mass of possession..

i'd rather lose like that than win playing boring rugby!

just face the fact that you got beat! fair enough the ref might have give some incorrect decisions but so does every ref! you guys obviously played well considering your somewhat depeleated squad. you should be gracious in defeat and get behind your team, afterall, you'll have to cos the wire are in town in 12 days.

From what I hear we put up a good show. Allowing HKR to work up a sizeable lead is what killed us. Nothing else. It's disappointing but we were competitive against a good side. Given the steady leaking of talent away from Knowsley Road over the last three years there's an argument that we were playing close to optimum today. And that's ok by me. It would have been far worse had the side rolled over and died as we were prone to do years ago (even under Millward).

My only consolation is I put on a £25 bet last night for the dobbins to make the top 8 this season at 3/1.
I thought they were too good to keep losing but would have prefered it if they had waited until next week to start winning.

The season is going about as I'd expect; we will end up about 4th or 5th and make the semi's but not more than that as (as its been said on this board many times) we are in some sort of re-building phase hampered slightly by the concentration of resources, sorry money, on the new stadium.
As the stadium is absolutely essential, I'm happy to go along with the current state of affairs.
