| Pryce, along with Roby, has suffered from the slower ruck speed this season. If you look back at the great things Pryce does, he nearly always does them off the back of big go-forward and a quick play-the-ball, when he gets the chance to run at a retreating defence. These situations have been hard to come by this season (especially with our lack of prop-forwards).
Pryce is still a good player, and didn't have a bad game yesterday IMO, but he just isn't going to have the same devastating impact under the current interpretation of the rules.

| Pryce amazes me! IMO he is such a gifted player, but only when things are going right and there is no pressure on him. I commented all game to my missus, asking when he was going to spark, but never did (though I didnt expect him too!). I would rather have a mediocre player who stands up to be counted when the going gets tough rather than a so called 'star' who only shines when everything is rosy on the field. I would comment about Long, Wilkin and Graham, but this thread is not about them. Hope you guys dont mind me coming on here and posting, and FWIW I thought that it was a great game, and the decisions didnt go for you on the night (we at Cas no all too well about Mr Bentham!!!!! p**k!)

| Here's what I posted about Pryce on the Wigan board.
I've always thought that Pryce could be a very good loose forward. A Saints back three of Wilkin, Flannery and Pryce would be well balanced.
A runner (Pryce) a footballer (Wilkin) and a tackler (Flannery) has always been my ideal for the back row. (Not the players the balance)

Totally agree - Pryce is not now and has never been a standoff

You can't blame the whole teams attacking foubar on him. Where has Matt Gidley been since he signed the last deal of his career for example, what has happened to Wellens chiming into the line like a centre? When did Sean Long turn that bad?'"
Give over - he's done nothing on the big stage. Needs a rocket big time or should be shifted out of such a key psoition as 6. May be now is time to move him to FB?

It's not a case of 'could' - Pryce has been playing like a loose forward for three years. The similarities between his game and Sculthorpe's are uncanny at times.

Pryce is a talented runner of the ball in the correct position he can be a massive asset to Saints. I'd like him to be officially played at Loose forward but if he needs to stay in the back then I'd have him in at Centre or even get him to fullback where he can still inject himself into the game. That would leave the 6 spot open for Wheeler to stake a claim

| Pryce came to Saints because he was told he would be playing stand-off, now, for what ever reason his form has gone so should his right to choose where he plays. I would play him at centre next year with Wheeler at stand-off, I would also give Tom Armstrong a few games in place of Adie, another who has to be told he is not guaranteed a shirt because of a past reputation.

| I've said for few month now that pryce should have been plaing centre with longy and eastmond halfbacks.
Potter has a huge problem next year with the halfback selection. IMO eastmond should be our 7 next year but I don't think he and pryce would work.
I don't think eastmond and wheeler our ready to play together as our halfbacks as it's a big ask for 2 young lads to direct the team.
It's a shame we didn't have the cash to bring a ball playing stand off in to help eastmond out.
IMO pryce would be ideal as our fullback but think wello will have something to say bout that.

| Its no good blaming Pyrce, most of the team has been rubbish this season, with possibly Wellens and Graham being the exceptions.
We just have not adjusted to the slow play the balls, Leeds, Huddersfield and Hull KR have adapted well.
We can only manage 2 passes from the ruck area, and as we don,t have a decent kicking game it means our attacking flair has dissapeared, even Gidley has struggled this year. So Pyrce and his loss of form you could say for half the team this season.
If you look at the Grand Final Leeds were getting the ball out wide quicker from 3 passes. We were doing 1 or 2 passes and getting swallowed up every time.
The only positive our defence has been pretty decent for most of the time in the tackling department but defending from kicks we are on dodgy ground.

| The key here though is:
Beaten Pack = ineffective half backs.
Fair enough, we were on top against Leeds for the opening 30, but even then with our forwards dominating theirs, the slow PTB and lack of dynamic passing left Longy and Pryce pretty much swamped by the opposition defence.

Even though pryce hasn't played to the level we used to he's still been ok this year.
His defence and work rate IMO has improved but his attack has been poor.
He ain't got the room to play his attacking game. That's down to lack of roll on, slow play the balls or whatever.
I think pryce would be a better playing centre or fullback.

Except Pryce's main assett is his broken field play and his running game, which was not Scully's main assett. Also, Sculthorpe could pass a football, kick a football and organise his team mates, all skills that are completely alien to Pryce.
In other words, the two are about as similar as Ellery Hanley and Barry Ward.
Leon Pryce is a broken field player and just hasn't got any of the organisational skills or tactical brains required to play a pivotal role such as 6 or 13 unless he has a 7 at the side of him that can do all those things for him.

| But Ellery was not a good passer or kicker. It took Graham Lowe to figure it out.
Bring in Andy Gregory to 7, Edwards at 6 and Hanley to 13. The best midfield triangle ever to play for an English club side.
Add a hooker in Dermott who could pass accurately and quickly, job done.
