| Quote ="Saddened!"Au revoir Jase. It's been a tough time for us all recently seeing him struggle but as his departure has now been announced, albeit by Purtill and not by the club, we should remember how good a player and how brilliant a man he has been at the club. A top professional who has worked tirelessly for the club and who would IMO, were it not for a ridiculous run of bad luck, have gone home a hero. He'll now go home with a mute departure, which is a shame because he was a fantastic player for us.
All the best for the future and whatever venture you turn your hand to now big fella!
Hopefully he can get back for one last gallop in the V.'"

Its funny how Fielden gets slated, but Cayless is very much the forgotten man.
He was superb up there with Fielden in his prime but both are shadow's of there former selves, yet still only Fielden gets slated despite him actually taking the field.
Perhaps being the forgotten man is not such a bad thing.
For what its worth I would not be surprised to see him come back and make a go of it in the NRL.

As if to almost repeat myself, a couple of points
1)cayless has been very good when fit, his body has just let him down.
2)Feildn is still a good, hard working prop, he might not seem to have the same effect, but he is still a top prop IMO

| When saints signed JC he was rated one of top 3 props in the world and was awesome for us until he got injured.
Just think how good he and graham would have been? both 80 min props.

I read it, you said he's not as bothered as us because he gets paid where as the fans are a player down all year.
That's as ridiculous as most of your posts. Care to correct my mistake?

Here's the conversation, petal:
Quote Saddened! wrote: Tis not the fault of the man that his body failed him. I bet he is as gutted about this season as we are.
SaintsFan wrote: I wouldn't have thought so. He will have been paid all the way through whereas we have been one player down all the way through. '"
Now, where do I say he is not as bothered as us? I say 'I wouldn't have thought so'. Not quite the categorical statement you are suggesting. I could go into a full linguistic analysis of my post but I can't be bothered. You are clearly bored and need to have a little nitpick to reassure the world that you don't have a small willy. I'm not going to indulge you.

And you say I'm nit-picking!
One thing's for sure, I wouldn't have thought that a "suppporter" who openly admitted they wouldn't watch the Leeds game because they thought we'd lose is more bothered about a player's season (and possibly career) ending injury than the player himself.

| Cayless was a top player before injuries robbed him of his prime. However, he was never in the same league as Britt or Fairleigh. The former was an offloading magician, the latter a head from mount Rushmore with adamantium legs grafted on who trampled on people.

| We hvae been lucky enough to see a lot of top class props over the years at Saints - Cayless is definately in that category alongside Fairleigh, Britt, Ward (Kevin), and James Graham.
I am gutted that his Saints career is over, I just hope he can make another go at it in the NRL.
And he has a fit missus.

Meninga was overrated. He had Sean Day outside him, who would make my Nan look good in the centres. Day was such a danger that teams were forced to double up on him, leaving a bus sized gap for Meninga to occasionally plod through.

He was up there as one of the best props in the NRL before he came over here, and in 2006 he was by far our best prop.
Britt was a different class to any of them - but Cayless has definately had a more succesful and high profile career than Fairleigh, in particular.
Its a bit hard to compare against Ward being from different era's - would Ward be as good in the full time era, or would he struggle with the fitness requirements?
Graham has the potential to be the best prop in the world - although I suspect he will have to go to the NRL to fulfill all his potential.

Are we talking about the same player here? David Fairleigh, former Australia international and State Of Origin player, who was voted as the best forward in the NRL the year we signed him?
Cayless was a good prop, but he was nowhere near the player Fairleigh was. Fairleigh was one of, if not the best, prop to grace Super League.

I had hardly heard of Big Dave when we signed, I knew of him and knew he had played for the national squad for a game or two...but hadnt realy heard much hooo haaa about him.. Cayless on the other hand came with a shower of glory around him, maybe its becuase he was part of that quality roosters side that ripped up the nrl, won teh league, tore apart saints in the WCC etc etc... cayless was in the top 5 props in the world when he joined us. I defo think Jason came to us with the bigger tag... of course "daisy" turned out to be a gem of all prop forward gems, as did JC when fit.

Agreed. Fairleigh was the best prop that he named, along with Kevin Ward, he was better than Britt and definatly better than Cayless, although both Britt and Cayless were good forward for us, Fairleigh was better.
