Spot on - I'm glad the club have made him or will be making him some kind of offer but we would be insane to offer him anything more than a 1 year contract with an option of a further year if the CLUB want him. That way if by some miracle he is still playing at a high level and our young player fall flat on their faces we still have an option.

If long does go I think he will sign a 1 year deal I think wheeler would be Potters 1st choice with gidley looking to b staying.

I don't see Wheeler as a scrum half, so I'd guess at Eastmond or Matty Smith.

I think he's shown this season he's only worth a 12 month rolling contract, If he play's better again next season, he'll get another 12. Simple.

If Long's going we have to get someone trained up in the scrum half position THIS season so they will be ready for the next campaign.

We can't keep giving Eastmond or Wheeler or whomever the odd game and then throw them in next SL and expect him to perform. It'll be a nightmare.

Eastmond would be getting much more game time at 7 if he didn't keep getting injured and Matty Smith is games at Celtic.

Wheeler is never a 7 - out and out 6 IMO.

If we lose Long, Cunningham & Gidley at the same time, next season could be the most important one we have had since Super League started.

Eastmond looks more of a scrum half but we don't know just how good he is.

If we let Longy go and sign Thurston, or even attempt to, I'll be livid. We should stay well, well clear of Thurston.

If these kids we have are anywhere near their hyped up level they will be able to do the job. I have a nagging doubt that they are all frauds, given how little any of them are trusted, when the club was perfectly happy for Smith to play week in week out for a while.

It must hurt knowing that by letting long go he went on to helping saints to win every posible cup

It's the right move by the club and the only sides I could think of that would be interested in signing Long are ones without half backs or somewhere like Celtic. I'd be surprised if he was overwhelmed with offers but we have to give our kids more game time in preparation for next year, which I'm sure they'll get if they stay clear of injuries.
