On antibiotics for infection and got to go see my GP next week when swelling goes down and infection goes. They said it should have been stitched up last week.

A risk certainly, but so was taking a home sick pig rustler from bush rugby.
Before anyone starts, I'm not for a second suggesting Lance is in Lyon's league, just that we should wait and see how he performs in the vee before wirting the lad off.
If nothing else, he's a sparky, exciting player who should provide plenty of incident for us to all talk about. Just hopefully not from full back as he can't catch.

I would think that all 28 year old RL players have "dodgy" knees.
Let's wait and see. I'm sure a few of our existing players will have surgery on niggles and knocks in the off season too.
For the "why do Saints sign injured players" brigade, Brett Finch missed the start of this year with an injury picked up whilst at Melbourne, it happens. He's done OK.

I honestly think next year, if we could keep Wagon Wheels from getting injured, the combination of
#1 Lomax
#6 Wheeler
#7 Gaskell
would be very effective.

I really does. Gaskell for the kicking & distribution, Lomax for the tackle bust and Wheeler for the touch of class. It could be very entertaining, but, as I said to you on another thread, Royce needs to be bold with his selection policy regarding the full back shirt.

| For info, Royce is reported as saying that he is calling Lance to discuss his injury as he (Royce) had been so absorbed in the Quins preparations that he hadn't realised Lance had an injury. So the outcome of that will perhaps be interesting.
Or perhaps not!

| Can,t see Lance playing at full back at all unless its a necessity due to injuries. Royce first choice will be at No 6 for his speed off the mark, taking on the line, his passing game, if his weakness is taking high balls then its negated playing at 6.
If Gaskell improves quickly at No 7 alongside the more experienced Lance, I can see Lomax going to No 1, he.s got a good enough defence and can beat the first man and link into the attack similar to Wello in his prime. I,m very optomistic that Lance is the spark we need and if all goes well for him could be just as effective of a Mr Sean Long.

www.nrl.com/hohaia-extends-nrl-c ... fault.aspx
Sounds to be doing ok down under...
[iThat he was even playing on Friday night was a testament to Hohaia's fighting qualities, given his spot in the side had been placed in jeopardy not once but twice.
An untimely knee injury cost him his start at fullback when Kevin Locke took his chance in the No.1 jersey, and he was forced to bide his time in NSW Cup waiting for an opportunity.
He returned via the bench to play a role in the Warriors' run to the finals, but cometh the moment, coach Ivan Cleary threw him back into the starting line-up at hooker.
Hohaia was busy as the Warriors battled against a Tigers juggernaut in the first half, but as they worked their way back into the game in the second half, Hohaia was back in the thick of it.
"He's just doing a great job for us there," backrower Feleti Mateo said of Hohaia.
"He played hooker tonight but he slots in anywhere, we'll miss him when he's gone for sure."[/i

| He'll go well over here. He's an attacking player and will get more room in superleague then in the NRL.
I'd play him at fullback if I had the choice and leave the halfback positions to the youngsters with Gaskell and hopefully a fit Wheeler battling it out for a place alongside Lomax.
I'd use Wellens as a utility player. I think he has the skills to cover fullback, centre, second row or loose forward.

| He is a good player and will be a useful signing. You don't have a long career for the Kiwis without being a good player. Some people do just love being negative for the sake of it.
If I can have one little moan they I would ask why we have signed a Full Back to play at Scrum half, why not just sign a Scrum Half. Warrington have fallen for this twice in signing hookers to play at seven. He is more a runner than an organiser so I guess he will play at stand off and then perhaps move to full back when we get shut of Wellens.
If I had been the Chairman I would have signed Widdop as a stand off and used my quota spot on Waterhouse to add some bulk to the pack. But it is easier to say this than do it.

He has played stand off in the NRL and he played scrum half/stand off in his junior days so you could say he was a halfback asked to play at fullback (as many are).
At the time of his signing Royce said that quality experienced halfbacks were very difficult to find. I think he found us a good un.

I am looking forward to seeing hohaia in a saints shirt and think he will do well for us if he can stay injury free. But I can't really understand the logic in signing him given the gaps elsewhere in the squad. We are fairly well covered at halfback even with the loss of pryce and eastmond. Would have preferred to replace Graham with a big prop in addition to laffranchi to cover his long stints and ability to stay injury free

But equally at that time we still appeared reasonably confident of keeping pryce. Signing hohaia probably helped convince him that his future lay elsewhere, particularly with the emergence of lomaskell and sicknote wheeler

I don't understand your logic. I'm sure Pryce saw Lance as a replacement for Eastmond as that is what he was recruited as. So unless he has a personal problem with Lance then I can't see how the recruitment of Lance would have persuaded Pryce to leave. The emergence of Lomaskell possibly will have made him stop and wonder but I would imagine there are things we know nothing about that were the primary factors for Pryce leaving.

Am sure there are, but pryce signed for saints to play at stand off because he was fed up playing centre Wong and full back at Bradford. Royce has said lance will play half back, and lomaskell will be ahead of price in pecking order soon if not already, leaving him in the utility wilderness again
