Give over. Take Wellens' name and past achievements out of the equation and he's not worth a place. The likes of Swift are better in every position Wello plays, and I'm sure the likes of Charnock and Yates are too so why bother keeping him?

Going to be very interesting where we play him next year. He's lost his fullback role and IMO he can't play any other postion.

We've had him practicing his best welsh accent. The delay in announcing the new contract is because McManus hasnt had time to head over to the RFL yet and cry about how unfair the salary cap is and demand we can keep Wello for free for the good of the game.

Unless we sign up O'Brien or someone similar I can see him clogging up standoff because Wheeler will no doubt spend most of next year on the treatment table. If my some miracle Wheeler stays fit then I'd expect him to be wedged in at loose forward where he can take the place of a decent forward.

If he ends up at loose, that means that either wilkin, sia or Manu not getting picked and all three are 100 times better than wello.

The amount of cap space we could free up by letting wello, Ade, Laffranchi plus the ones like Meli, TP and Perry should allow us to bring in top quality players but we are giving dead wood like wello, Laffranchi and Ade new deals.

If it was a choice between retaining Wello or signing a young prospect like Breierly from Leigh (rumoured to be moving to superleague), which would you go for?

I can see why Brown wants an experienced head in the team, but surely Roby or Wilkin now count as experienced heads. Manu / Sia / Laffranchi.

If you look at who is leaving, for as much as I like and respect Wellens, from a purely sporting sense I would have kept TP one more year.

At Warrington we have a few players who have been with us for 10 years. Super Ben, Lee, Woody.
But you only get the 50% discount on one of them, I would imagine that at Warrington Super Ben would have the biggest wage of those mentioned and we would apply the 'discount' to him.

At Saints I would imagine Roby or Wilkin would be the biggest earners (But has James done his 10 years yet?)

Yes, only one player per club can have a 50% reduction and ours is on Wello. Wilkin and Gardner both qualify also should Wello leave, which he certainly should do IMO.

Wellens is a club legend but he has been past it for a year or two now. Lomax has proved himself as an excellent FB and Wellens is simply not good enough to play at 6 or any other position that isn't full back.

IMO it needs a massive clear out and wello, TP, Perry,Laffranchi, Meli, Ade, Howarth are all players we CAN get shut of because they off contract.

The front row is so slow, weak and lacks any aggression that its embarrassing. Laffranchi and TP are shattered off the pre game warm up.

This is our chance to have a good revamp but we won't.

I see, it seems that sentiment is holding you back abit then. If saints got rid of some of the dead wood, signed a decent halfback and freshened the pack up you'd be right back in the mix of the top 4. Are the players needed available though? Alot of teams are having this problem now. The NRL is a financial powerhouse now, have you noticed we don't get anywhere near the quantity or quality of players coming over that we had even just 6 years ago. In fact we are actually seeing many of the top english players going the other way. I wonder if this could be a factor in saints decision making.

The times I have seen him play this season he has been good.

When I was a kid we used to go to my Nans at Clinkham Wood, we used to pass an old peoples home and they used to sit outside. Langtree Park the modern day version any idiot gets a bed and yes I think even Howarth will get 12 months to join the others on the ward.

I've really made an effort not to get as down cast as some of the other Saints fans this year, after all, every team must go through down periods. But this..... This has to be the most depressing piece of news I've heard all year.
