| Quote ="St pete"Our right edge of Gaskell, shenton and makinson looked poor in defence.'"
I think Makinson never recovered from his error after his slip near the touchline. He started off very well but after that his game just got worse and worse. Gaskell only made a couple of defensive misreads but where the heck were the rest of the defenders? Where was Wello? Probably still whinging at the ref and getting us marched back 10.
But at least we got two points. In no way at any time did we deserve the two points but - for a change this season - we got lucky.

| I think we need to give some credit to Widnes in making it an uncomfortable match for us. Widnes looked stronger along the back line than us, another 5 mins and i reckon Widnes could have scored again, bet Dennis Betts was pleased with his sides performance.
For saints the win puts us in a great position to push on, win all our home games with the odd away win.

I think it was probably about the same. He started off great. Took a couple of those really brave catches he does, made a couple of great breaks. But I still think it was that touchline error that brought a try for Widnes which seemed to knock him totally off course and he really did have a stinker after that.

Credit can easily be given to Widnes as they were better in all respects than us. But when we should have been good, when we were in attack and close to the line, we didn't know what we were doing. And Wilkin should take a break. He was dire. Really dire.
Quote For saints the win puts us in a great position to push on, win all our home games with the odd away win.'"
Yup. We're going to find it tough against the Dragons in two weeks though unless the break is treated like an opportunity to work on our game rather than a holiday. I really hope that only Robes gets a holiday. Everyone else should be on that training field for most of the next two weeks.

Widnes didnt crumble they dug deep and played with pride in the shirt. They deserved to Win the game.
Makinson had an horror game, and after that performance i think Saints need to consider taking him out of the firing line, like they did with Foster when he had a shocker. FWIW i though Makinsons performance was worse than Fosters at Bradford.'"
I was shocked at how easy makinsons head dropped today, he started off on fire with some great catches and good runs but after his mistakes his head dropped and he stopped looking for the ball.

I felt sorry for him - obviously, because I'm a fan of his! - because he shouldn't beat himself up about his error. Previously he has been good at atoning for his errors by scoring a try or executing a great tackle. I hope he gets that attitude back again.

I thought makinson was the type to just get back on the horse but today his head dropped.
TP went over and had word and give him a pat on the back.

Like Wigan earlier in the season for instance? At least we pulled the win out of the bag unlike the Pies did... It's Widnes' cup final and a meaningless slog game for us - of course they were always going to be a lot more up for it than we ever were. This performance ultimately means nothing in the greater scheme of things and the 2 points is all that (vaguely) counts.

It was at about the same stage of his career that Foster started his steady decline into a points machine (for the opposition). Let's hope Makinson can put this behind him and not start down the same slippery slope...

I hope he does because I like tommy but I was shocked at how easy his head dropped today.
It's a big test of tommy mentality now. Foster lost it, let's hope tommy won't.

| Widnes are finding their feet and are a good team when they want to be (they beat us remember) but the main worry for you guys is the way brown seems to have imploded at Huddersfield at the minute Rush and KC may actually be a better bet.
Here's hoping, well for your sake, that brown is just distracted that he's on his way to your place. Well not just for your sake I want a good game against you I don't want him to take you low and us stuff you I'd rather you were the team of a few years ago we could beat you but you made it damn hard!

29/06/2012 - Warrington 24 - 48 Salford
On current form, if the above teams need to sit up and take note then you need to climb out of that hole you're in. Oh, and before you say 'look at the table' there's one more result I'd like to remind you of:
30/03/2012 - Warrington 16 - 28 St Helens
You absolute whopper.

| Widens have more going for them than their league position suggests. They're certainly a strong team carrying the ball forward with some big guys in their forwards.
One of their problems is that they don't defend that well quite often, although that wasn't particulary evident yesterday.

| I thought Widnes were the most enthusiastic of the 2 teams and were unlucky to win the game...still only their first season back in SL and they certainly seem to be making a bit of a fortress of the Stobart Stadium as it isn't easy to go there and win!!
They are rumoured to have some more good players joining them next year and think they will improve and be challenging for the top 8 in next couple of seasons

Agree. If they cut out the needless penalties that in the main Cross and Pickersgill give away they will reap the benefits...

Hey BackRow, sorry for the late reply but I have been away on my Hols.
So............. pray tell hows Agent Brown fairing those days. His mastery of RL is causing me to look forward to the 2013 season with such relish.
Although with my team being 2nd in the league & playing at Wembley, season 2012 is far from over for us Wires.

Thanks for that completely irrelevant response to the original subject.
Remember you own coaches record at Hudds before writing off Brown.
