| Well if he's been working there he may have picked up some fresh ideas and maybe an idea on a few younger players who may not be hitting the first team yet. They might be able to serve an apprentiship over in SL.

| It's interesting to hear that he's been working at Melbourne. Assuming he gets here it can only be a good thing to have a coach who has an insider's perspective on how things are run at a club like that.

Absolutely! How we can ever be expected to compete with the big clubs again when all we're prepared to do is pay massive wages for the best possible available coaching candidates and sign Australian international players is just beyond me...

| Quite interesting that the Wests Tigers speccies seem to be pretty torn between Sheens, Brown, Potter and a hatful of other ex SL coaches, like Morgan, Parish, Anderson and Tony Smith. Clearly, they havent seen such of these boys, or they wouldnt be creaming themselves about the likes of Potter and Justin Morgan. Either that, or the standard of NRL coaches really is poor.

| Bloody hell! I know he likes to say he’s off home every other day, but if this turns out to be right it would be a big moony to Saints. Can’t see it myself, what loon would give a bloke like that a job, and before anyone says it we’re not lookin’.

“Ruin this generation” well if Smith signs any more soon to be has-beens form the last generation I think he’ll soon have them back on the road to insignificance again.

Quite odd that he is so far down the list, behind the likes of Brown, Gentle, Parish, Potter and co. who between them have won cock all

Maybe his agent isnt pushing him. Didn't he pick up a British passport (i.e he doesnt want to go back to a country with better weather, more prospects, a better league and probably better pay)? Brown had experience in the NRL as a head coach too which non of the other you mentioned do.

| Take this with a pinch of salt (as it is Dave Parker reporting it) but in today's League Express it says that Saints may be looking at Brian Smith if Nathan Brown were to renege on his contract.
Hmm.

| If Brown doesn't come back, we'll get another suitable candidate. Some of the doom and gloom on this thread is completely unnecessary!
We're one of the biggest jobs in world rugby, and, unlike the current dearth of player talent, there are still plenty of more than qualified coaches available.
Let's be clear I've always thought, and still do, that Nathan Brown is the shot in the arm Saints need. But that's not to say it will be the end of the world if he decides to stay in Australia. We've got a good squad and life will go on regardless.

Spot on. If he doesn't want to be here we don't want him here. There'll be no shortage of candidates.

Whilst, I don't think DA was any sort of coaching messiah (his all conquering side had a glut of talent for a salary capped squad and was helped by an era of quick PTBs and a massive front row).
However, he id show more ability to improve his players technically than we've seen recently, the case in point (imo) being Sean Long. Whilst his game had started to become more rounded, it wasn't until DA's arrival that we saw him turn into a genuine controlling 1st reciever.
He wouldn't be a bad appointment, but I'm still having a bit of blind faith that Brown will turn up as arranged.

| We shouldn't even be having this discussion. Nathan Brown has signed a contract, and it would be terribly ungentlemanly of him to renege at this stage. He should make a statement, along with the Saints board, re-iterating his commitment to this job.

Hasn't his manager stated he's fully committed to saints?
To be fair, he's not said he's not coming and has signed a three year deal, it's all paper talk so IMO he's nothing to answer to.
