IMO pairing Gaskell and Lomax would probably be an error at this stage, so I'd either go with Gaskell and Lance at half back and put Lomax to 1 or put Makinson to 1.

Makinson to 1 gives the least disruption, Gaskell to half back gives us a better kicking game.

What are their previous records like? I know Laffranchi was banned a few times in the NRL, so maybe it's worth getting him to plead guilty?

Has Wello ever been banned?

I would have no problems with either Gaskell or Makinson in the side. But this is a new team so we should not underestimate the chances of Ashe getting a run at FB as it is his choosen position.

Gaskell and Lomax had wigans number last year so it's not the end of our chances at all if they do play together, but I think the experience at half back has helped take the pressure off.

Lomax can play 1 and still offer the same attacking options that he has done in that position.

So we have 3 options that I think are mostly likely.

Lomax to FB, Gaskell to HB
Makinson to FB
Ashe to FB.

But also Wellens may not get a ban, he has a good discipline record, I've not seen the incident and so he may get away with a letter. I recall the last few years lots of players with poorer discipline records getting letters warning about their tackles rather than bans. So unless there has been an interpretation or there was something really nasty I would expect a letter and a fine.

La Franki, well we have TP coming back in but I would rather keep TP at 2nd row.

I could see La FRanki coping a plea if he did a spear. Clough, LMS, Perry, Megennis to be the four main props.

Franchise's hit didn't seem to bad at all, yes his legs were over the horizontal but he didn't drop him on his head or bury him? It was clearly onto his shoulder and Blythe got up and played it with no word from the referee.

Briers made the most of Wello's tackle too. It was a silly thing to do but IIRC Wello let go of him. I mean if he can pick Briers up off the floor whilst on his knees then i think he should be in the Strongman series.

TMak surely has to come in at 1 if Wello gets banned, leave the Lance/Lomax partnership alone and don't disrupt it with bringing Gaskell back. TP could come in for Franchise but its a shame as he was getting really into his stride.

i thought laffranchi would be up for his tackle late in the game surprised at wellens being charged thou nothing in that tackle plus wellens is on his knees ,even wikin gets a look at for bridges injury were he run into wilkin late ,got to laugh at the rfl nothing for carvell with the head high on laffanchi . i think laffranchi will get a ban ,if i was wellens i would be appearing and defending my corner .

I am astonished that Wellens has been cited considering some of the stuff that went on in that game.

See Morleys 'tackle' on Perry in the lead up to our try when Morley was slow getting back into the line. He basically goes in third man with his forearm to Perry's chin and jolts his head back, but somehow ends up worse off. I imagine if Perry had gone down feigning injury or had been knocked out, we would have heard a lot more about it.

I even paused the moment when I got home to check where he made contact as I saw it as clear as day at the game, and the video confirms it. I couldn't believe Laurel and Hardy didn't mention it in commentary.

has Carvell's head tackle in the first half been reported?

I didn't notice any at the game but when I watched it back I did notice it. I think both are worthy of a ban of I'm being honest. I don't think the was any intention to hurt anyone but they did look dangerous.

They may get away with no bans based on having good records but I'm not holding my breath. These things happen and we just have to adapt.

Same for me. I was certain Laffranchi would face a ban as that was a bad tackle. But for the life of me I can't remember what Wello did to attract a ban, other than flap his arms and screem at the ref to a highly embarrassing degree.

He had Briers upside down in a tackle,and given the letter of the law it was a dangerous position

Bit of a blow to lose both, Wellens is proving the critics wrong (including myself) with some strong performances in recent weeks. Laffranchi has been good all season, a really astute signing.

TP in for Laffranchi isn't a problem though and hopefully Wheeler should come in to strengthen us in the backs. Makinson to step in at full back to keep the half backs the same.

For me I'd put Makinson in at Full Back.
Wheeler back in the centre to Meli.
Puletua at 2nd Row and rotate Clough, Perry, Magennis and LMS at prop. May help to bring TP/Soliola at prop at some point to add a bit of grunt

I've just watched the first bit back again and I must have been looking away from the TV when it happened as it was pretty obvious really. Hate to say it but it deserves a ban. Very stupid by Wello.

I can't say I have a problem with either of the bans, other than we will obviously be two players short. But we beat Wigan in the playoffs last year with half the first team out so I'm sure the coaching collective can cope.

Surely Wellens good record will count for something, has he even been infront of the panel before?

He had a no case to answer last year, so it went no further than a report.
Had 2 similar cases in 2010 with no case to answer.

So has never actually been to a tribunal before. Although I don't know how far back the electronic records go. With that kind of record a letter and a slap on the wrists should be sufficient if the tackle was with him on his knees.

Very strange that the majority of players cited are from the games that have been televised this weekend. Do the panel watch all games or just a select few.

Wellens is trying to steal the ball isn't he? I've just watched it back and there is no way he intends to do that. Briers only lifts up as he digs his studs in and drives them forward. It's a nothing incident.

Laffranchi's isn't bad either. He isn't lifted high off the floor and lands on the middle of his back between his shoulder blades. In the good old days it would have been a letter about his technique and a fine. There were worse high shots that went unpunished and Morley's elbow on Perry which again has been ignored. Briers' grapple tackle on Wellens was also as bad as Wello's on Briers.

What a load of rubbish. If it had been our players upended on their heads you would have been bleating like mad if Wire had been let off. They were both bad tackles, regardless of whether they were deliberate or simply reckless. They both deserve bans because they both involved putting a player on their head. That is dangerous even when it's a Wire player being put on their head. (If it had been Wigan players, of course, that would have improved them no end)

I'm not saying they weren't dangerous, I'm questioning the intent. You can get away with not being banned if you didn't intend to cause harm, which neither did. Someone mentioned Wellens has never been before the disciplinary committee before. Given Ryan Bailey escaped a ban about 94 times because he'd never previously been banned, I'd say it would be mighty harsh to ban him for that.

They both had until 11 this morning to register their guilty pleas, any news about that happening?

Have they both pleaded guilty or are they going to appear before the panel of officials?
