I think you being little harsh on Soliola, he's not played much rugby over the last 18 month with pretty bad injuries. I think he showed signs of being a pretty good player for us.
Perry is a top class prop and hard as nails, he loves a punch up!

Soliola was an absolute joke in the Grand Final.
BUT in his defense he has endured a terrible time with his injury. With a proper off season and some proper coaching he should settle down into a quality player. His defense in the game against Warrington at home early in the season was superb.
In the game against Huddersfield he made some massive hits. If he can combine that impact with fewer air shots through picking his moment and being more calm about things he could become a big weapon for us. He mentioned a few times in the press he was desperate to prove himself and he was out to do that.
He will also benefit from the fitness a proper pre season brings, provided he has the self discipline to recognise he needs to get stuck in and not just bloat up in the off season.

He's prob trying a little to hard at the moment, he's missed all year and prob wants to show his team mates, coach and fans what he can do.
Injury is the main factor tho, he looked pretty good against hudds for a guy that's been out for nearly full season.

And this is all he does. He is hired muscle. Bit like keith mason except mason has a bit more go forward. He was like a rag doll at the end of the NRL season, was getting embarassing watching him being tossed around by other props.

This is Josh Perry, the guy who's been selected for NSW and Austrailia, right?
Well, its a good job we've signed LMS to back him up, then.

We know who he is, and as far as I can see here, he's done nothing wrong but offer an opinion to which you don't agree. If that was a bannable offence, well, I'd be talking to myself on here.

You having a laugh?
Perry is a top class prop, he's big, tough and can play in good spells. IMO last year and the start of this year he was in top 3 props in the world.
Thrown round like a rag doll! Ask ben cross what happens when you try to throw the rag doll called perry about.
He missed the bank end of the year and only came back for the last 3 games.

Yeah he hasn't done anything bannable. And i wasn't referring to his difference in opinion. I am referring to the fact that nearly all of his posts are putting saints down, always criticising the players or the team. He always puts other clubs before his own. I'm not the only one who's picked up on this. If you know he is a genuine, pessimistic Saints supporter i will make no more mention of it because i'm sure we can trust you to sniff out any pretenders.

Josh Perry a top class prop? Take it from someone who watches him almost every week. Perry is anything but top class. He has never been in the top 3 props in the world at any stage of his career. Even at Manly both Jason King and Brent Kite are far better props.
In the past two seasons, Josh Perry hasn't averaged more than 80m a game and hasn't made more than a 100m a game since 2005.
The fact that Perry has represented Australia and NSW is a travesty and is indicative of selectors policy of picking players from winning teams regardless of ability.
In his two games for NSW he has only made 113m in total, including the first game of this year where he only made 38 metres in 7 runs as a starting prop, before Bellamy benched him and then dropped him for Game 2.
Perry will do well and will no doubt be a useful asset but don't kid yourself that you are getting a world-beater.

Not that its hard, but I seem to remember him looking pretty good for the Aussies. He's a good age as well.
Its interesting that you also mentioned Brent Kite, as we were rumoured to be chasing him on more than one occasion.

Interesting post.
Could you please post your views (maybe on the Wigan board) on Lima, Hoffman and Finch, as you obviously have seen far more of them than we have.

| In agreement with the above poster re: Josh Perry at the end of last season, with Manly still in with a shout of the playoffs he looked anything but world-class. During a number of games both before & after his knee injury he certainly wasn't looking for the ball, & was going through set after set without taking the ball in or anything other than third man in tackles. He does however like to 'niggle'! I am hoping that this is not representative of what he will do when he gets here.

Believe me, ive seen him play enough over the last 3yrs, he will be a awesome signing for us. The aussie natinal side don't just pick anyone, he was playing state of origin and for oz this year.
He will be a very very good player for us.

That would be the logical conclusion, however, its not always true. NSW in particular has made an artform of selecting players who aren't good enough, its part of the reason they are staring down the barrel of 6 consecutive defeats. There is a significant difference in the being selected for a team and being good enough for a team, Perry may have been selected but his performances show he wasn't good enough.
I know its come across as a big whinge against Perry but that wasn't my original intent.
Quote ="SaintsFan"Um, your first post on here and it's all about how our new signing is, basically, rubbish. I think I'll take what you say with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, I suppose its not a fantastic first impression but one has to start somewhere. I'm not trying to bag Perry, he will be a good addition and provide some great support for Graham.
I never said Perry is rubbish nor will I, Perry is a good NRL prop and he will be a good player next year. I was just pointing out that he isn't a superstar and is certainly never been one of the top 3 props in the world.
I stated my reasons and gave the statistics to back them up (you can find them [url=http://203.166.101.37/NRL/index.htmlhere[/url). I was just trying to give a frank assessment since obviously playing in Australia he is a bit of an unknown to many in the same way many current Superleague players are unknown to me as I only manage a few games a year.
I support the Saints, however, having lived in Melbourne for the past 5 years it gets a bit hard to follow a team by just reading BBC reports.

Whereas I would suggest it is more because of who is playing for the other side. It seems to me they have half the Australian national team, which has a particularly gifted backline at present, whereas NSW don't have that luxury.
Quote I know its come across as a big whinge against Perry '"
Yes it did.
Quote Yeah, I suppose its not a fantastic first impression'"
No it wasn't.
Quote I never said Perry is rubbish nor will I, Perry is a good NRL prop and he will be a good player next year. '"
That's what we want: a good player. Imports travel in different ways. Eastwood at Rhinos got all homesick, bless, and after not playing that many games over here has scuttled it back down under. What a wuss. Again at the Rhinos, Buderus was supposed to be hot property yet every time I've seen him on TV he's dropped the ball and given away penalties. But we got Gidley a few years ago and he has been a brilliant player for us after a bit of a dodgy start. Not this season, granted, but previously he has been superb. So telling us that Perry is not up to much down under counts for zip, really, given that it is a different game over here and a different culture.
I'm looking forward to him coming. If he is niggly in the way that someone suggested then so long as he is niggly in a clever way I'm all for it. We need someone with a bit of edge to him as we sorely lack that at Saints. Likewise, we need someone who isn't afraid to take on the opposition going forward and in the tackle.
Besides, I like the look of his punch.
