| Quote ="magic piano"From a Wire perspective the rivallry is based almost entirely on jealousy. Just as Saints had this chip on their shoulders (as did we) with regard to Wigan during the pre-SL era based on jealousy of a truly dominant club, so do Wire fans look on the trophy cabinet of Saints since 96 with extremely green eyes. We aim to pitch ourselves against the best, and against the best of the SL era we have a half decent record, indeed of the 4 teams to have won the SL title we are comfortable with facing 3 at home or away. And then you get to Saints who have had the Indian Sign over us since thos terrible (for us) 2 nights in the early 90's when you put 140+ on us for very little reply within a week. We were there when you won SL1 on the end of a thumping and ever since that sunny day we have wanted some of the cake. Sadly a series of inept people at the club have left us without even a bridesmaid tag to hang onto, until our special day at Wembley last year which many people in Warrington quietly hope was a catalyst not a one-off. Now there is a genuine belief borne out by early season form & performances that Wire are on the verge of something that will make us true contenders, not just the ones with biggest mouths & wallets. Wire fans barely dare hope that we are on the verge of doing a Leeds & building success not trying to buy it as we have in previous years - our mix of homegrown & paid for talent is more even than ever.
Friday is our big test - to be considered the real deal we have to prove ourselves against our Nemesis. How many times have we said "now is the time to beat Saints"? Maybe now is our time, but for the first time in SL history I travel to Knowsley Road tomorrow expecting an even battle between two pretty much full strength sides, not hoping for a miracle & that is where this year may, just may, be different...'"
Very well scripted, on a personal note I believe in hoping for my wishes to come true but am prepared for any eventuality, should the wiah not be granted.Whatever the outcome enjoy the event, I will

| Quote ="Gazwire"Regal Trophy-91. Challenge cup last year. In terms of honours then we can't
compare to yourselves in the superleague era. Up until that point there
hadn't been much difference between the 2 since the Rugby league formed. You
seem to be one of few Saints fans who don't believe the rivalry to be of much
significance. In fact it reflects the attitude/arrogance you and many Saints fans
hold agains't other sides as you revel in your own self-importance among'st
a pitiful number of supporters relative to your success. I'm looking forward to
Friday when our legion of c.6000 supports out-sings your spoilt bunch and hope
that our team batter you all over the field. And this season is the start of your
clubs downfall and opportunity for your fans to change into real fans over the
coming years rather than the spoilt, moaning brigade your club seems to cultivate.'"
Not true. Pre-super league we'd already won more than double the amount of championship titles Warrington had.

| Most of the recent Saints/Wire games have been won in the last 5-10 minutes. So for a team SO FAR in front of us what went wrong? Most wire fans are basing tomorrow on recent results the difference being we have improved this season and to be frank Saints have not.

38 wins, 2 draws and one solitary defeat (days after winning the cup and the celebrations that entails) would suggest that nothing went wrong mucker.

| Since the 80 - 0 in the regal trophy and a couple of thrashings in the late nineties, I thought the wire where in the championship, no one has informed me that they're back in super league...When did this happen??

no, what i'm on about here is if you're so far in front of us then surely you should have destroyed us in every match rather than relied on last minute tries or drop goals

The latter is much funnier and you lot cry much more when it happens.

| I'm not trolling one bit. I just can't understand how it's possible to get so animated about a fixture we've dominated for years. I mean, I can understand WIRE fans getting all het up (Phuck ***I'D*** be het up!) But not us.
Hating on a team we consistently batter is just the height of decadency and a sure sign that we've had it good for far too long.

You only won 7 and we won 3. Hardly a cakewalk .
Other trophies won during pre superleague were fairly even-
Challenge Cup- 5-5
Regal Trophy- 4-1 to Wire
Premiership- 4-1 to Saints
Lancs Cup- 11-9 to Saints.
Overall, I'd have to agree with my initial statement in that 'their hadn't been much difference
between the two sides.

| Looks like a post made by someone who knows their own clubs dominance of not only a rivalry but of a competition is coming to an end. It's so true that every dog has it's day, and Saints days are counting down very quickly indeed.

I dont know about Warrington but in the rest of the world 7 is more than double 3.

Where do Saints fans see their team in 5 years and more to the point see Wire in the same period.

you were insinuating that St Helens were much more dominant because they had won
more than twice as many titles than us. I have just revealled the full picture by
comparing ALL the honours and not picking out one set which suit my club.

Given that the average age of the Wire first team is 28 I don't see your success lasting that long without serious investment from Moranovich. If he puts that in fine, but then we'd be able to say you bought the trophies rather than earned them.
Winning one Challenge Cup means nothing. Sheffield did it, Hull did it, hell even Wigan managed it. It doesn't mean you are a top side and it doesn't mean you are going to win anything last season.
The suggestions that Saints fans are jealous of Warrington is ridiculous. We have seen Saints win around 20 major trophies compared to your 1. That kind of treasure hunting has to be for a limited period and we all knew the circle would have to turn eventually.

Why, you'd win that one. I think Wire are set for a good spell and seem a superbly run club, emerging into one of the really strong SL clubs along with Leeds, Wigan and Hull.
Within 18 months Saints could look drastically different than what we do now. We could well have a new coach, possibly 6 or 7 new players as we have around 8 of the first 17 coming off contract and, fingers crossed, will be in a shiny new stadium attracting more revenue and less cost than KR is at the moment.
I don't think there is any doubt that the stadium process has impacted upon the resources and work that has gone into the playing side of things. There really isn't any thought being put into the squad development at the moment, hopefully that will change once the bricks are in place.
New coach, new stadium, new players, new kit, new cheerleaders. It'll be all fresh and new.

| Thanks for that saddened, sarci comments aside i think Saints Will be weaker for about 3 seasons. But i don't doubt them in the long run, they have been the most consistent team in Rl (i said consistent not successful for any pie trolls willing to correct me). I don't doubt for a second that this will only be a minor blip in your history.

What blip in our history? Reaching 3 GFs on the trot?
I really do think people should wait until at least half way through the season before saying Saints are even close to a blip. Last time I checked the SL table we were only 2 points behind the unbeatable Wire and Wigan teams despite a pretty shoddy run with injuries.
Come Friday we could be level with the mighty Wire and they could have lost 2 from 3 against the stronger teams in SL (Wigan and us, but beating Hudds).
