The only thing St Helens was famous for before the 1950s was that Bert Trautmann played for the association football team before moving to City. Nobody had ever heard of the rugby team.

Even at our worst we were winning more trophies than 1 in 79 years, now that is the achivement of a club you can't take seriously. If only RL began in the 1950s then Stains may look like they even mattered to the sport throughout its history!

The difference is that England haven't won, or come close (bar 1990) since 66 whereas the wire have won 5 trophies in the past 7 years. And also saints 2 in 7, or many during the sl era. It all depends on the timescale.
