| Quote ="The Chief"I dislocated my ankle quite badly last June, I was lucky in that there was no break but all I was doing was putting a pair of boots on to coach a rugby team. 12 months on and whilst I'm now able to go to the gym, running any kind of distance just isn't on the agenda. Now I know I havent had the level of medical treatment that Walsh is getting but I just can't see him coming back inside 12 months. If that's his target, can you honestly see him being fit, healthy and up to speed enough to slot straight into Saints first team (he can't go on duel reg remember) for the last half a dozen games before the playoffs?
Let's be realistic, whilst we all wish him a speedy recovery, I just can't see Saints making any kind of business decision that doesn't involve bringing in another 7 because it will be impossible to predict if he will be able to come back at all. They can't possibly run the risk of him being unavailable for for the start of next season when in all likelihood, every available half back will be off the market by then. If they do bring someone in, will they sit him out half way through next year so Walshy can comeback in the team for the most important part of the season? Remember he only has 18 months left on his current deal and there is no way saints will take up the option of a third year unless he is 100% fit.
Every scenario to me points towards him having played his last game in the redvee. It's a crying shame for him, for the team, for the club and for the fans, but I just can't see us settling for another season without a guaranteed fully fit scrum half that is raring to go come the opening day of SL next year. Rember there is a new structure so there is even more at stake to perform in every game from word go.'"
BUT
Walsh will get daily treatment when needed which will sipped any recovery ..
Also, is an NRL club going to want to sign Walsh before he's recovered from this!? Better to let his Saints contract cover the injury period and try and sign him for when his actual contract finishes?

| Given the new structure. I can see lomax going to 7 again till Walsh is fit. Next year. Wello gets another year at fb.
But we still need another half. Then a third for when Walsh does go.

If McDonnell plays well he could earn himself a contract. Another year at FB for Wello really is pushing it to the extremes, even now his positional play can't make up for his lack of pace and he's becoming an 'easy beat' when the line is broken.

He's been an easy beat for most of his career, certainly the last 5 years. Another year at fullback for Wello would be simply farcical. It's time up, game over, why prolong it. Can anyone actually remember when Wello used to be good? I used to be his biggest fan, I used to have arguements until I was blue in the face that he was the best fullback in the country. Now it's a similar feeling to watching one of your offspring struggle at something they are terrible at but really wish they weren't.

| Give it a rest Saddened - you really are a very sad individual.
Even you with your bias against Wellens - you have to admit he has been one of our best performers since Lomax's injury.

If Lomax was fit Wello would not be starting and Shannon would not have been looked at?
Wello is a good back-up for full back and is worthy of another year's contract? But Brown can't be sentimental and putting him in the 17 next year because he's Wello? Give the Captancy to someone else and Wello needs to understand he won't play every week but on form this year he deserves another years contract.

| Don't normally comment on other boards but I really hope Walsh makes a full recovery and plays for Saints again in SL as he is a class player and will be a huge loss for our sport during his injury!
Saints will be alright for the rest of the year, your academy is top notch!

He will probably be in the top 3 for saints club player of the year - AGAIN. Yes he will get skinned by a fast winger when Wellens tries to cut across field which is what happened when Turner missed a tackle and then Dawson missed a tackle on Friday.
Wellens still reads the game better than other player in the squad and communicates that to the team, we have not got one single player in the squad capable of that attribute, similar to Sinfield and O'Loughlin.
Wellens has never been an easy beat and has been good for most of his career, hence the media recognition of "Mr Radar".
Yes, he should be retiring at the end of the season but who is available to replace his qualities......its not all about being able to run fast.

| My point was that Walsh was rumoured to be on the move at the end of this year. Unlikely to happen given the injury, so rather than trying to replace Walsh I can see us getting a 6 who would play 7 until Walsh is fit.
But we seem to be struggling to find a half that we want, so Lomax may well stand in.

| Is Brett Kearney any good as a 6? I seem to remember he came over to play stand off but ended up getting shifted to the back.

Think it was the other way round, he's a full back but they kept moving him forward when they had injuries.
I've seen him look classy at 6, but I can't remember if that includes a kicking game.....

| He's an "ok" stand off but hasn't got great passing or kicking skills. He runs good lines and is a decent support player. He's not a playmaker.

You don't need to be so quick to "defend" Makinson. Nobody is blaming him.
I've just watched the footage frame by frame and it certainly does look like Makinson catches Walsh's trailing leg. Simply a very unfortunate accident.

I wasn't sure myself so I slowed it down in some video editing software. As Makinsons legs swing around from the tackle it traps Walsh's lower leg against the floor and as he goes to take a step you can see it go.
Looks horrible in slow motion.

You don't need to be so quick to make jump down my throat. I wasn't defending anyone. I simply expressed my opinion, and frankly that's all it can be from anyone since when did one camera angle tell the full story?
I think it is such a shame that anyone is even writing about this.

No one is blaming Tommy he just fell onto the back of Luke's leg chasing back causing the accident (pure accident) you'll probably never see an injury like it again =#0000FF#sic

You don't know that he did do that. We've only got one camera angle to make an assessment and even from the one angle we have got, it doesn't look to me like he did.
Of course people are apportioning blame, why else was this scenario even raised as a possibility?

You've totally lost the plot here. You're letting yourself down massively.
Nobody has blamed Makinson at all. Somebody said he made contact with Walsh, which nobody is doubting apart from you, and you've got all defensive about it and thrown your toys out of the pram.
Seriously just chill out. Nobody is blaming anyone. We were simply discussing how it happened.

Just listen to yourself.
First of all someone raised this as a possibility. Why?
Secondly, everyone assumed the worst even though we see every week on Sky how different camera angles show a different scenario. Why?
Thirdly, because I disagreed with the post blaming Makinson - and still do - you accuse me of stupid things like getting defensive when actually I was simply disagreeing with the post blaming Makinson. Why?
Someone says Makinson fell on to Walsh's leg and that is what caused Walsh's leg to break, even without conclusive proof of such a scenario, and yet nobody is blaming Makinson? Get real!
I'm not defending anyone because there is nothing to defend. Nobody did anything. Walsh fell over his own feet. I find it distasteful that anyone else is even discussing this. Walsh hasn't even left hospital yet and Makinson is a very good friend of his.
