I agree, it shouldn't be about a 'RU' thing.
My gripe with Edwards is that he's done nothing to make himself synonymous with RL at Wembley, other than turn up there a lot with Wigan and almost decapitating Bradley Clyde.
Far more worthy names being mentioned, and Edwards is only getting so many mentions because Rogues is on a wind up again.

| For me the statue is more about RL than about wembley. Sullivan beat the ozzies and was the first black captain of any British international team. What encapsulates the spirit of RL more than that?

Surely it should be about RL and it's affiliation with Wembley?
Otherwise, it's easy - just run another statue off the KC cast. Job done

| Quote ="Saint Simon"Personally, I think Clive Sullivan is the best candidate'"
I have no problems with Clive, to think all he went though as a youngster, all the operations he had to have thinking he would never have a rugby career, but he came up from Cardiff for a trial with Bradford who passed on him, but Hull were wiser. So no ties with union.
I still rate Alan Prescott though, but perhaps not many will have heard of him of these days, I never saw him play but what I have read and videos I saw he was impressive, 31 appearances for GB and 10 as captain as well as then that 1958 Tour when Great Britain defeat Australia 25-18 in the second test match at Brisbane with only eight fit players on the pitch. Alan as Captain played for 77 minutes with a broken arm and match became known as ‘Prescott’s Match’, he won the Lance Todd and then went onto coach and win The Challenge Cup.
No way do I want anyone with a union connection, this is a statue for Rugby League.

| seen the odd post or two r.e.Alan Prescott [Brisbane fame & a young Steve Prescott image. What about nominating Steve he has been with 3 clubs in his playing days. There would be no local bias as to "well he played for them".Also he does & is doing an awful lot of charity work with his illness. We are also nominating him to carry the Olyimpic torch so why not the Wembley vote.At the mo cannot think of anyone else doing that amount of charity work.

| Offiah and his background with union? and I presume you mean one Fox brother than missed a conversion at Wembley which seemed a sitter! except for the wet pitch, also I am unsure about Steve Prescott even though we know he is doing a lot of charity work, it has got to be someone with some real Rugby League history that people will recognise in sport and not just RL.

Imagine those two iconic images back-to-back on the same podium. It would be incredible. Tell me of another sporting statue that you know of that exemplifies the drama and entertainment of its sport. I can't think of one because usually their just boring portrait statues. It's also a bridge between the old part-time RL and the foundations of the professional era. It's absolutely perfect and whoever thought of the idea first should be applauded. Bravo!

No Problem it being a trio of players but Offiah is as well known as a union player and Fox for missing a goal at Wembley so being a loser?

[size=200 ![/size
I have posted this in response a few times to people who have said that Fox shouldn't be part of the statue because "He's a loser",
[iYou are missing the point about choosing Fox. We are talking of a statue, which is by definition a work of art, here to commemorate the sport and its relationship to Wembley. Art does not always have to just acknowledge who won so it stands to reason that one of the most incredible sporting moments in the history of world sport should be a contender for the statue (how many people see the event does not make this claim any less credible).
If Fox's pose was commissioned (and I may have talked myself into saying it is now my first choice) then what better moment to capture exactly what rugby league is about and I don't just mean with Wembley either. Rugby league is about heroes, magic, flair, and physical/mental commitment of the highest order. However, most of all rugby league is about drama. Drama on the pitch every week unlike any other professional team sport in the world. Our sport creates so much drama that we call it entertainment because it is both. When Fox missed that kick it was dramatic but it was also the exact entertainment that gets me, you and everybody else going back for more week after week after week. If it wasn't we'd have stopped watching long ago.[/i
If you add Offiah onto the other side of the statue it's perfect because the Offiah image feeds on the same kind of raw emotion that losing does.
Vote Offiah/Fox.

No I mean literally why does it [uhave[/u to be a specific person, rather than something that [urepresents[/u the sport in general and its association with Wembley. And also why it has to be someone that is recognised in the wider world of sport when in reality the majority of people who will see it won't know any of the sports historic figures other than 'recent era' players or any of the iconic images that have been mentioned so far. Lets be honest the majority of Rugby League figures that get regular national exposure outside of the SL matches shown on sky, are those now associated with Rugby Union or are twonks like Stevo and Offiah.

| McClennan, I applaud the idea and you do put it very eloquently. However, it wouldn't be a conventional example of the great (if slightly cliched) elation and misery statue.
This isn't winner and loser in juxtoposition. This is a man who fluffed his line on the biggest stage and he was haunted with it throughout the rest of his life, against victor.
I would be all in favour of having an example of hard fought victory and hard fought loss. This idea just doesn't feel right to me. I don't think anyone but a Leeds fan at the time has enjoyed seeing that and it really shouldn't be celebrated in statue. It is not typical of the sport (in a bad way). A wonder try being celebrated or a rousing performance; yes. But I know I wouldn't feel pride explaining it to someone.
I would much prefer an icon of the sport (a faceless player with a number 13, a challenge cup) or a group of players throughout the ages.
It feels

| Yeah a moment that ruined a man immortalised, i know you're pushing this Mac but it's so cliched it's sickening. Besides, what's Offiah done for the game since leaving it? The more this discussion goes on the more i'm thinking it should be some iconic generic image, rather than a player.

Can we clarify this for the historians! is that the Offiah never played union? or that Fox never missed a goal at Wembley LOL!
This is a subject very few will agree about perhaps it should just be a statue of A player or players and no one person?

Love it Mc, that would be awesome.
Those speaking about Fox as a "loser" are missing the point. It's about the drama of RL at Wembley, and those two images are as iconic as it gets in that respect.
