Not to you it isn't. It's closed to all Wigan fans but most of all those who call themselves Rogues Gallery.
Shaun Edwards is a Union man. He doesn't represent League. I don't care whether he wears cherry and white undies and kisses the Wigan crest every night, he no more represents Rugby League than does Prince Charles.

I'm a saints fan born in cowley hill and raised in Billinge amongst the Inbreds ( some of which are my good mates ). We can discuss RL without us all touting our corner with the blinkers on. Personally I think there are many moments from wembley finals which we could choose. My favourite would not be based on it being a saints player. If you read further back you will find that I would like a statue of Lance Todd ( played for wigan didn't he ). Why? Because his name is linked to the standout player of every final.'"
I'm quoting wikipedia here so apologies for any incorrect facts but...

Of course he represents Rugby League. He is the most decorated player in RUGBY LEAGUE. and has appeared and won more at Wembley (where the statue is to be erected) than ANY other RL player. His present position is irrelevant.
Have you ever heard him denounce Rugby League or dismiss his roots?
If the RFL (and Eric Hughes) hadn't been so bloody stupid Edwards would still have been a part of RL today. There was a very interesting piece on Shaun in Fridays Evening Post, it may be available on line. I suggest you read it, but somehow doubt you will.

I don't care. He is automatically linked with RU regardless of his 'roots'. It would be daft to have a statue of someone better known in RU than RL when we are supposed to be representing RL.

He left because he wanted to be near his family in London and he wasn't allowed to day off a week by the Evil Eric Hughes.
He is in union because he got a good job offer, gets paid well and can still be near his son so please stop blaming everybody Rogues. Who know if he would have made a great Rugby league coach , for all we know he could have been another Fat Gary Schofield.
great full time professional team (with some truly great players) + massive transfer fee's + gargantuan wage bill + part time opposition = large medal collection for lucky Mr Edwards.

That article just proves my point about Edwards and Wembley, thank you
43 games unbeaten, youngest EVER Wembley captain.
Most decorated RL player EVER.
He must be so lucky, it's a wonder he ever kept his place at Wigan with all those massive transfer fees that were available to replace him
I wonder what his lottery numbers are?
Again thank you for proving a point.
There's nothing like a bitter/jealous Saints fan.
I love it.

How many of those 43 games were against part timers? How many of those medals were won playing people who'd spent all week in full time jobs and only training a couple of evenings a week? As for keeping his place , well the Ego situation at Wigan was well known and you had to have some balance hence the Cassidy's McGinty's, Panapa's and Edward's of this world. Shaun was lucky , he started young and if you like timed his time at Wigan to pretty much perfection.
I see you havent commnted on the other stuff Forced out my ar$e , he left of his own free will and judgement and Wigan at the time (being in financial ruin) were probably glad to see the back of his salary
Oh is this true btw?
"Edwards was very critical of Australian Test star Brett Kenny. He accused him of throwing a game against St Helens in 1985 after the Cup victory over Hull F.C.."

The same bitter / jealous Saints fans who, in the main, appear to have no problem with Offiah or Hanley featuring?
Edwards was a great support player and fit in well with that team at the time. But put Danny McGuire in that team, and he'd have had similar success.
As well you know, 'decorations' aren't always a reflection on the quality of the player.
If you feel it is, then you must be in no doubt that Wellens was far superior to Radlinski. He's far more 'decorated', that's for sure.

| Edwards is only the defence coach for wales. Gatland has probably been far more influential in their somewhat limited successes. Whether or not you want a statue of him, his involvement in union shouldn't be an issue in my book.

I agree, it shouldn't be about a 'RU' thing.
My gripe with Edwards is that he's done nothing to make himself synonymous with RL at Wembley, other than turn up there a lot with Wigan and almost decapitating Bradley Clyde.
Far more worthy names being mentioned, and Edwards is only getting so many mentions because Rogues is on a wind up again.

| For me the statue is more about RL than about wembley. Sullivan beat the ozzies and was the first black captain of any British international team. What encapsulates the spirit of RL more than that?

Surely it should be about RL and it's affiliation with Wembley?
Otherwise, it's easy - just run another statue off the KC cast. Job done

I have no problems with Clive, to think all he went though as a youngster, all the operations he had to have thinking he would never have a rugby career, but he came up from Cardiff for a trial with Bradford who passed on him, but Hull were wiser. So no ties with union.
I still rate Alan Prescott though, but perhaps not many will have heard of him of these days, I never saw him play but what I have read and videos I saw he was impressive, 31 appearances for GB and 10 as captain as well as then that 1958 Tour when Great Britain defeat Australia 25-18 in the second test match at Brisbane with only eight fit players on the pitch. Alan as Captain played for 77 minutes with a broken arm and match became known as ‘Prescott’s Match’, he won the Lance Todd and then went onto coach and win The Challenge Cup.
No way do I want anyone with a union connection, this is a statue for Rugby League.
