Still irks rather a lot that during the time we were by far the best team in Superleague (not that long ago!), we didn't fulfil our potential in terms of silverware. Looking back over the SL era, anyone would be forgiven to think that Leeds had been the best team, when this just isn't true.

Anyway, finish top and one of my pre-season bets (I had a tenner on us for each of the LLS, GF Winners, CC Winners) comes up to give a small profit (I took us at 4-1 for the LLS)

We did underperform in terms of GF's. But I would still take the LLS as a sign of returning to form. Winning the GF comes down to more luck due to the fewer games and the concentration in one part of the season. Ours has run out with injuries. Although I'm not sure who I would bet on now other than Leeds.

Catalans will qualify for a top 8 finish this weekend does this mean they could rest a few players for the play offs in there last game against Castleford.

Not quite. They will be 4 points ahead with 2 games to go (sound familiar?

) so will need at least a point from their final 2 games, as will widnes

Most of this team have not won silverware at all in their careers. Many have not been in a final. I think winning the LLS will be a great step forward for what is a relatively green group of players when it comes to pots and I can see only positives from it. I just hope we produce the same gutsy, backs to the wall, determined effort against Warrington on Thursday, preferably with a bit more in attack than going down the middle, as it would be wonderful to celebrate our first silverware since 2008 at home.

I don't really care what happens beyond that this season given that we have our best play makers sitting in the stands.

I agree, we've gone to long with no silverware that the LLS is a step in the right direction. We all know it's the worst of the 3 cups on offer but it also shows that we have been the most consistent side in the regular season (unbelievable I know lol).

There are only 3 trophies to play for and the LLS is one of them. At least it's not the Carling Cup!

So I'm wrong already. I've worked out the masterplan. Our ideal scenario sees Wigan, Hudds and Cas win their remaining games, with Saints beating Wire on thursday. If so..........

Castleford v Warrington

interesting Club Call in that scenario potentially. Would we rather pick a higher ranked Castleford team, or a lower ranked but arguably more dangerous Leeds team.

Or would it be preferable to pick Leeds to play at home, and send Cas to Wigan where they have a decent record. Then play Cas in the final and hope to catch them cold like Leeds did at Wembley.

You'd have to take Castleford. With all due respect, and they've earned a lot of respect for their performances this year, Playoff football is different gravy to regular league games. We know what Leeds and Wigan offer at this time of year.

I'd take Leeds every time. Much rather face them at LP (or even Headingley based on the last 3 regular season visits) than Old Trafford. If we picked Cas and went to OT I'd be convinced (rightly) that we would face another beating at the hands of Leeds.

Interesting point but you'd surely think Wigan would come through the other side? Surely Saints best (however small) chance of winning at OT is hoping that Leeds/Wigan face off in the other semi final if we are lucky enough to come through our side. One thing is for sure, if we get Clubcall, it will be a very interesting choice we make.

It's a nice change for Castleford to be Included in the mix this year. It's good for the game and defo more interesting

Going back to finishing top, you would have thought that the chance to win a piece of silverware would be the extra motivation our lads need to really take it to Warrington this week. You'd have thought we'd be playing another forward skewed game, in which guts and attitude is an important role.

if it was being played on paper, our lack of halves would seem to be our down fall, but hopefully the chance to clinch a trophy will give us the extra impetuous.

I do think people are over egging other teams.

Warrington have had similar form to Leeds recently without the distraction of the CC.

I agree it will be a forward dominated game if we are to win, but hopefully the back to back games will keep us a bit fresher. I do think the week off never helps Saints players. Which will be ironic if we do finish top.

Cas will have a tough time against Wakey, could easily lose that one
