Is that allowed?

Sky reported that Wigan's assistant coach (who I always get mixed up with the cricket player, which is why I'm not using his name!) had a chat to the referee during the halftime break about how to avoid getting penalties in the second half, and Eddie Hemmings asked whether coaches talking to the referees during a match is allowed.

Does anyone know? It seems a very dodgy thing TO allow if it IS allowed as it doesn't exactly reinforce the impression of the referees being neutral as they should be.

I think they can ask questions to be honest.

to be fair i cant see the problem, asking how to avoid penalties seems a sensible question to ask, should have asked it 25 rounds ago though!

If a coach knows the rules his side should be able to avoid most penalties, in Wigan's case they always play so close to the edge that it's not surprising that a good referee should penalise them. They have got away with far to much this season.

Yes its allowed, just that the sky sports muppets decided to bring it to attention of the paying viewers not knowing the consequences of saying it!. Im sure Shaun Wane isnt the first assistant to do it and certainly wont be the last, but not for the first time this season the sky pundits pick up on things the mighty warriors do and decide to share it with everyone else....thank god Phil Clark's in our corner!!!

I recall the uproar when Jon wilkn asked the ref to put Lima on report yet the ape goes and try and influence the ref at halftime.

I bet the ref pooed himself when the ape walked in.

Interesting that Rod on sky confirmed it happened - while he may not know what was said I can't see any reason he would make up them having a chat regardless of what is was about.

I remeber a Saints coach asking the ref before the game if it was legal to head the ball, prior to John Harrisons header for a try. Cant remeber who the coach would have been, McLennan maybe???

Nothing on the RFL site to suggest they are saying anything. Where did you pick up that they and Wigan are denying that anything happened?

According to the GMR phone in the half time conversation didnt take place, dont know where Sky have got this information from in the first place. Have just watched the game back and Shaun Wane is seen in our dressing room at half time, Eddie Hemmings doesnt mention that after the game even though the cameras never stopped rolling when Madge addressed the team at half time.
