| Can someone please explain this Warrington obsession to me because I just don't get it? The way some of you keep yapping on you'd swear they've been our deadly rivals since the game went to 13 men.
Which is phucking odd because in nearly 25 years of watching Saints I don't ever, EVER recall Warrington making so much as a full stop of a mark on the Rugby League Richter Scale of Rivalry. Yes, they had a track record of dirty play between the arrival of Boyd and the retirement of Cullen - but not much else. Indeed, since Lydon's monster drop goal they've been a perennial basket case.
If we're using a measure of pain-inflicted-upon-us during this period as a guide - Widnes are bigger rivals. Christ! LEIGH are bigger rivals.
The truth of the matter is we currently have a handful of posters who a) can't take a bit of ribbing at work (despite holding the BEST record against an opponent in SL HISTORY!) and b) just love to wail about it like little babies who've had their cuddly toys taken from them. And BOY do they wail. They wail so much that occasionally it borders upon a tacit argument that Wire are more worthy of hate than WIGAN!?!? Now this IS crossing the line. Especially when - on results - Wire are more worthy of our sympathies than hatred.
It's like there's some kind of Orwellian historical distortion afoot here. It's perverse. It's groundless and it's phucking WRONG!

As a Warrington fan it pains me to say that you're absolutely right. Regardless of the result tomorrow to say we have grounds to make up on Saints would be an understatement of biblical proportions.
I suspect the obsession relates to a feeling that Warrington are 'on the up' and that Saints might not be. However I've lost count of the number of years Saints have been 'in decline' only for them to hand us our twice a year, win the Challenge Cup and make the Grand Final.
Time will tell - although the first sign of the obsession residing will probably be when people stop starting threads about it.

| Regal Trophy-91. Challenge cup last year. In terms of honours then we can't
compare to yourselves in the superleague era. Up until that point there
hadn't been much difference between the 2 since the Rugby league formed. You
seem to be one of few Saints fans who don't believe the rivalry to be of much
significance. In fact it reflects the attitude/arrogance you and many Saints fans
hold agains't other sides as you revel in your own self-importance among'st
a pitiful number of supporters relative to your success. I'm looking forward to
Friday when our legion of c.6000 supports out-sings your spoilt bunch and hope
that our team batter you all over the field. And this season is the start of your
clubs downfall and opportunity for your fans to change into real fans over the
coming years rather than the spoilt, moaning brigade your club seems to cultivate.

| Personally I would say that the games against wire have become much closer and as a result more interesting over the last few seasons since they started to improve in contrast to the traditional rivalry against wigan who have been dragging along the bottom during the same period. We've also been fortunate to win on several occasions and so the games have been edge of the seat stuff compared to the several lacklustre games we've had against the pies over the same period. So they've been the local rivals to beat. It's also nice to regularly beat a team whose fans have such a high opinion of their team; how many times has it been going to be warrington's season? Maybe this time they're right, that's why friday is such a big deal for me.

| From a Wire perspective the rivallry is based almost entirely on jealousy. Just as Saints had this chip on their shoulders (as did we) with regard to Wigan during the pre-SL era based on jealousy of a truly dominant club, so do Wire fans look on the trophy cabinet of Saints since 96 with extremely green eyes. We aim to pitch ourselves against the best, and against the best of the SL era we have a half decent record, indeed of the 4 teams to have won the SL title we are comfortable with facing 3 at home or away. And then you get to Saints who have had the Indian Sign over us since thos terrible (for us) 2 nights in the early 90's when you put 140+ on us for very little reply within a week. We were there when you won SL1 on the end of a thumping and ever since that sunny day we have wanted some of the cake. Sadly a series of inept people at the club have left us without even a bridesmaid tag to hang onto, until our special day at Wembley last year which many people in Warrington quietly hope was a catalyst not a one-off. Now there is a genuine belief borne out by early season form & performances that Wire are on the verge of something that will make us true contenders, not just the ones with biggest mouths & wallets. Wire fans barely dare hope that we are on the verge of doing a Leeds & building success not trying to buy it as we have in previous years - our mix of homegrown & paid for talent is more even than ever.
Friday is our big test - to be considered the real deal we have to prove ourselves against our Nemesis. How many times have we said "now is the time to beat Saints"? Maybe now is our time, but for the first time in SL history I travel to Knowsley Road tomorrow expecting an even battle between two pretty much full strength sides, not hoping for a miracle & that is where this year may, just may, be different...

Very well scripted, on a personal note I believe in hoping for my wishes to come true but am prepared for any eventuality, should the wiah not be granted.Whatever the outcome enjoy the event, I will

Not true. Pre-super league we'd already won more than double the amount of championship titles Warrington had.

| Most of the recent Saints/Wire games have been won in the last 5-10 minutes. So for a team SO FAR in front of us what went wrong? Most wire fans are basing tomorrow on recent results the difference being we have improved this season and to be frank Saints have not.

38 wins, 2 draws and one solitary defeat (days after winning the cup and the celebrations that entails) would suggest that nothing went wrong mucker.

no, what i'm on about here is if you're so far in front of us then surely you should have destroyed us in every match rather than relied on last minute tries or drop goals

The latter is much funnier and you lot cry much more when it happens.
