Everyone is quick to slate Francis Meli when he makes mistakes, but jeez, how many trys do we conceed down Ade's wing.

Tonight reminded me of the Wigan match at the DW stadium recently, when he was caught in no mans land and Ainscough went over for 2 tries.

He gets caught in no mans land when defending kicks.

He's slow, but it's not his fault. If you look at the time the kicks were made there were three or four players on Gardner, they would have walked it in by passing wide too, he can't possibly cover that much ground when facing the wrong way.

It's not his fault, then who's fault is it lol.

And in terms of Ade Gardner, I've always said it, and I'll say it again, he is a good winger at best, no world beater, and is average most of the time. He is blessed with having Gidley on his shoulder who sets up 99% of his tries.

Scott Donald, David Halley and Peter Fox are all better than Gardner in my opinion.

Look first at the fullback.

He defines average.

Spot on imo.

Gardner is average and always has been but he's been made to look half decent by the centres at his side. He must have had the easiest job in world in the last few seasons playing outside of 2 ledgends like Lyon and Gidley.

He got found out in the world cup when even an average joe like Calderwood out played him.

He can ctach a ball and has half decent pace but that about the start and end of it all.

Gardner missed his partner in crime tonight. Gidley is a defensive rock.

He missed him in every aspect of his play from his great defence to his walk in try assists.

The vast majoirty of wingers would miss a player like him though.

Remember Gilmour played that centre and normally he plays the other centre.
Wing play has always been a partnership with the centre, two backs not used to playing along side each other will miscommunicate with each other.

Whilst I do agree that Gardner isn't a world beater, he was badly let down by Gilmour inside him tonight, in the second half especially, he seemed all over the show positionally.

Gilmour was in a different postcode to Gardner at times tonight.

How often was Ade left defending three men tonight?

Gardner is covering for Longy in defence time and time again. He cant do right for doing wrong.

Most of the time, he is covering a two on one overlap and does as much as he can in the situation. Jees, some people need to take the blinkers off.

Ade is e, he only looks good thanks to Gidley, whenever he gets the ball and has to make some proper yards, he comes infield, to scared to take the man on down the line, Ainscough is twice the winger that Ade will ever be, also Wellens is POO

Might be a poor effort but it is right, Ainscough ain't scared to run the side line where as Ade comes in field every opportunity.

Not only is Gardner the slowest winger in world RL, his positional play is absolutely shocking with an alarming degree of regularity.

Its hard for Gardner to defend kicks outwide coz teams always have 2 man overlap outwide.

He don't know if to drop back or stay in the line coz of the numbers team have outwide.

It's not just gardner fault it's the whole outside defence like the halfbacks, 2nd rows, centre and winger.

For what it's worth I think long and wilkin was by far the worst player on the pitch. Long has had his worst season in a saints shirt and wilkin was is normal self( rubbish)

Well, considering were carrying so many players that are useless, i'm surprised we are so successful.

Why?

Gidley = creates and scores tries = back-to-back sets = opposition tiring = even more tries.

Puletua = constantly sucks in 3 or 4 defenders = gaps for average/overated players to score = back-to-back-sets + opposition tiring = even more tries.

You got beat by a poor Bradford side last night and unless Gidley and Puletua regain fitness then expect more of the same against top-four/five sides.
