Tim Moltzen travelled to St Helens last week and found it so amazing he's going to ask Wests for a release?
Surely too good to be true? A terrible half back, but far better than Lomax at fullback.
What do we make of this?

| Why would he be far better than Lomax at full back? He's dreadful.

| I'd be shocked if we sign him. He's a pretty good fullback but we've got lomax.
I hope to god we don't go down the hohaia route and sign a fullback to play in the halves.

Give over. He's a great athlete, he'd cut Super League to pieces. Seems a bizarre one though. Why would we be after a fullback when Lomax is one of the few decent players we do have. If it's to play at 6, it's a poor move.
Even more bizarre is why he'd fly to the UK? Surely he could just pick up the phone?

| He tweeted this earlier in the week:
"Just arrived safe N sound in Manchester. Looking forward to catching up with a few of the boys and my main man @Mark_Flash_Flan"
I think people are jumping to conclusions here. Don't we have a full quota anyway?

Why would he be flying to the UK in the middle of the NRL season to visit friends?

Oh I get it, you're in the camp that believes 'any Aussie player will cut SL to shreds even if he's crap'
He's an awful full back, can't catch a bomb to save his life

As long as Saints make sure he has a suitable get out clause so he can mention it in his first real interview
after signing for us , don't really see a problem.

| With Luke Walsh being the main general. Lomax and Moltzen would float around the pitch just like Wellens and Lomax are doing at the minute.
It would be a very good buy IMO.
No player can be judged by the NRL. Clint Greenshields and Ben Farrar are crap in the NRL yet looked super impressive over here.

| And if its true then either Laffranchi or Hohiah is out of here. I personally hope its Laffranchi, do not mind him but we have plenty of second rowers. I'd rather play Luke Thompson then we can have Hohiah on the bench.
1. Lomax
6. Moltzen
7. Walsh
9. Roby
13. Wilkin
15. Hohiah

| He started his career at 6 apparently and then was moved to fullback. I'm told he's good in attack but not so good in defence.
If he comes it will be to play 6 I reckon as lomax is pretty much nailed on for FB.
If does suggest that one of our quota players is leaving since it's full with Walsh, Masoe, Soliola, Hohaia and Laffrachi. Considering that boof signed a new deal if seems likely that Hohaia is the one who could be gone?

Boof's deal still hasn't been confirmed, so you never know. There's also been talk of Rovers being interested in Lance.

| I would also be more confident in Moltzen at 6. He was moved to full back as the Tigers had no one else.

Of course boof has just gone home for a while hasn't he? But I was going by the fact we would be swapping like for like so it would suggest that it's Hohaia who may leave for Moltzen

| Moltzen is also twice the player Rhys Hanbury is, yet people would love Saints sign Rhys.
West Tigers fans say his got plenty of potential but is too soft, Super League is lee intense so might be a perfect fit.

| This story smacks of an injured player going on holiday to meet some old friends and a section of the media putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 26
Why would we want to sign a fullback when we have Lomax, Swift (winning MOM awards weekly at Whitehaven)Wello, Makinson and also Hohoia who can fill that position.
Were we are weak next season is standoff.
At present we will have either Hohoia or Wheeler to cover that spot.

I get the impression from what I've read that Moltzen is a stand off who has moved to full back fairly recently. A dangerous running 6 to play alongside Walsh would be just what the doctor ordered. I don't know enough about Moltzen to know if he fits that bill, though.

Wests are on a weeks holiday due to having a bye. Marshall has gone Bali so it's possible he's here just to see flash.

He's a 6 who fell into the FB role - so I'm told by people who have watched him.
He'll probably come and play 6 where, as you say, we are weak.

Longy had at least 1 before he signed for us. As long as he passes a stringent medical I'd be fine with that. Maybe the plan is to rotate him with Lomax at 6 & 1 which might work. It doesnt work that well at the moment because Wello is not a modern fullback

Reading this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Moltzen it seems he has 2 things in common with Lomax, both have metal plates in their heads and both seem happier at fullback ...
