Hopefully we can also find a hard as nails prop to complement the squad. A strike centre is what we have been lacking since Willie Talau and Paul Newlove. A organising Scrum Half is vital.

| I can't honestly see us signing anyone else. Where would the money come from to do that, presuming they really are spending up to the cap on this lot? Dixon will probably leave, potentially Gaskell and Foster as well. It would have to be a couple of really good players to better those two and according to many on here there are no players available anywhere in the world that could improve Saints.
In other news Hull KR have signed another quality NRL halfback for next season to go with their other one, which means Wigan can sign their second new halfback from Hull KR.

| Im sure there will be more departures announced in due course which will free up some much needed cash to strengthen areas of the side. Dixon is heading to Salford? Gaskell in my opinion should be first chioce 6 but whilst Hohaia is on the books I cant see that happening to be quite honest and could possibly be sent out on loan? The nonsense with Foster will come to a head when Brown takes charge unless its been done allready. I can honestly see him staying and given another chance if I honest. Ive also heard a rumour Josh Perry is heading home after the end of the season.......

Oh no, just as he's starting to actually perform. I wonder who we could get in replacement, as we'd need two props then, plus a halfback.

| problem is that we have Perry and Hohaia probably taking up 15% of the salary cap space between them. Perry is here for another 12 months, and Hohaia another 3 so unless either of those leave then we are stuck with the generally average squad we have now.
I would guess that the money spent on Shenton and Flannery has been given to Turner and Manu
anyone else who leaves, Foster, Dixon, Gaskell etc....will be on such low wages that there isn't the quality of player available to replace them with that will improve the squad substantially.

| Next year is going to be an interesting one. We need 3 things before we'll be ready to compete with Wire and Wigan:
1) A half back who can organise a game and kick a ball. He doesn't have to be flash. Just someone who can do the kind of job Paul Deacon did for Wigan in 2010.
2) A vicious forward. One who frightens people.
3) A threequarter with pace and footwork.
The likelihood of us getting all three is close to zero. Unless we can cut loose one of our current non-fed players we may well not get any one of them. If we can't get 1) then Gaskell has to play in the halves. He's far from the finished article, but at least he can kick. As for 2), who knows? Maybe Alex Walmsley fits the bill. It seems that Jordan Turner is the club's answer to 3). Hull fans are extremely dismissive of him, but I'll reserve judgement until he's had fair crack of the whip in the red vee.

Fair point about Josh Jones! And as I said before a experienced organiser at half back is a must. What some people fail to understand is that this squad needs change and wont be a instant fix under Nathan Brown in year 1 of his tenure. It will probably take him the full 3 years to get us anywhere near to winning Challenge Cup Finals nevermind Grand Finals.

Why on earth would we do that? He's already 21 isn't he? Which would mean he was 23 with absolutely no Super League experience when he returned. Seems a rather silly way to do things.

So is
Not replacing your left centre for 4 years.
Buying diddy men to play prop.
Giving your starlets new contracts and send them to another club or back to the physio table.
Buying a utility player with no kicking game to play at 6.
To drop your only HB with a kicking game.
To keep a pedestrian FB at FB.
To believe that a back up hooker is your star scrum half.
To keep retaining journeymen on the basis that nothing better is out there.
Giving 4 year contracts to post testimonial butty shop owners and international utility players.
Welcome to the Saints recruitment and retention strategy.

Leeds did that with Hardacker/Featherstone the second they needed him they recalled him and didn't send him back. I guess it is to keep Batley happy so they do not charge to big a fee (if at all). He probably needs a few months of training before going in the first team. I would guess that you will see him between rounds 10 and 18 next year assuming he does sign.
I suspect that Brown will have a shack up regardless of the player movements. I would suspect that Greenwood, Forster, Gaskell and Ashe will get runs next year. I would not say that Percival is out of the question for a game or two. He is not physically up to Super League yet but neither was Scott Moore when Milward played him against Wigan aged 16. I just feel it is the sort of thing a coach like Brown would do.

I would rather give these kids a run in the side instead of signing over the hill journey men looking for a big fat pay check at the end of there careers. Some of the youngsters coming through at many Super League clubs dont get a chance to shine and is it any wonder they go away from the game? Greenwood, Forster and Ashe are due for a run in the side when the chance arises. This way of doing things has benefited Wigan and Leeds even more so. Thats the way forward.

Hardacker was younger, what saddened means is that he will be getting on a little with no experince of super league.
We'd be better keeping him and picking games for hon to play and playing in the u20s if we don't think he's ready.

Do you want to join mine and saddened club? We seem the only ones that can see how poor our recruitment and retention has been for past 5/6 years.
