He is good, but I wouldnt say he is challenging Roby as the best.

Solid enough player. Not fit to polish Roby's boots though and I think Wigan fans would probably agree.

McIllorum isn't a bad hooker. He has the potential, and as a back up to Roby for England, he is a good option.

But Roby's sights will be set on Cam Smith and becoming the best in the world. Something he has the potential to do.

If it's on the international stage? well if Mccillorum was Australian then would he be the best in the world as playing for Australia ATM isn't hard to look outstanding?

Roby is a different player to Smith but to even suggest McIlorum could be as good as him is just stupid. It's like telling Tony Hibbert he could challenge Ronaldo.

It's flattery. I good coach would say he was the best hooker in the league. Instead he has said that "if you eat your greens one day you could be just like James Roby".

I remember back in the early 90's it was the Wigan players who you were aiming to be as good as. McRae was a sod for doing that. It is good to know that the Wigan coach accepts that St.Helens produced players are the yardstick for his players, to attempt, to measure up to.

McIlorum is a decent player but he's not even the best 9 at Wigan. Lulu is the better player.

That made me chuckle, Roby is far superior to any other hooker in SL and is better than the majority of NRL hookers also...

McIlorum is a half decent player, but to say he isnt far from the best in the league is a joke...Tommy Leuluai, Michael Monaghan, Ian Henderson are all better 9's than him and even looking at English hookers, Danny Houghton at Hull for me is the 2nd best we have got behind Robes

When I read this story earlier on in the week I thought it may well be regurgitated on here. Alas your correct. McIlorum isn't anywhere near the standard of Roby. But he did play well against Leeds and if Wane feels that by coming out with this spiel it'll help McIlorum's confidence and in turn game, so be it.

Roby for me is the best hooker in the world and also got to be in the top ten players in rugby league.

I'd have a good bet he's got the best stats In The world. Breaks, tackles, meters, assists I'd like to see anyone better.

I think this year he's took the mantle off jammer and has started to infulance the team more than he did last year.

I think the Wigoon Coach is judging the player on just one game against Leeds. If the coach bothers to compare Roby's Superleagues Stats against McLlorum Stats its absolutely mind blowing and shows up that Roby is 4 times the player McLlorum is. Roby is already double the stats after just 2 games this season , as the wigan fans say FIOS.

Don't be daft! I'd have Robinson and Burrow over him as a replacement option for England. McIllorum is a good defensive player, but crucially he offers zilch in attack.

Wigan have a problem over the 9 shirt as Leuluai is needed in the halves as they have no other cover.

Apart from the England U18 scrum half of 18 months ago and both England U16 half backs from last year.
Then of course there's Joe Mellor who ran Gaskell, Lomax and Wheeler ragged until his bad knee injury at the start of 2010. He's just scored tonight at Bradford in the U20 btw.
