| So far so bad, as it stands I'm sat here watching a team that don't look like they'd score in 3 hours never mind 80 minutes, terrible performance

| Have to agree, you remind me more of my team (Hull FC) in attack rather than St Helens - the entertainers. It's sad to see however losing Cunningham/Long seems to have really hit you now, Eastmond to me looks disinterested. Hopefully you'll improve.

| for the most part it was like watching a performance under Potter. How we managed a draw from that I do not know.I wish we had a few more like Roby who was magnificent. If Eastmond is going to play like that every week ,then let him off to Union.

| I agree. 65 minutes of utter rubbish and they still got back into it. Shows how right I was about Wigan being lucky in the Grand Final. One half back and we would have been fine, both and we'd have won. Same again today.
Their defense is incredible. But once they get tired they simply cannot do it legally, it's physically impossible to keep up the intensity that long. So they go high, they go in late, they flop, they hold down. And today the penalty count reflected that. Wigan are good going forward but expend so much energy in defense that their attack isn't as cutting as it could be.
Saints were very rusty, disorganised and disjointed. Didn't look like they knew each other at all. We didn't seem to have any attacking moves and it all looked panicked and off the cuff. On the hour mark they showed a stat showing we'd made 0 breaks. Sums our attack up. Leon is essential and can't come back quick enough.
I still think there is plenty for Simmons to work on in attack, but most of his work will be in defense. We were very narrow throughout. The mistake was maintaining this in our own 20, which meant any Wigan width resulted in an overlap. There were also far too many missed tackles. And the age old incompetence at the back in dealing with kicks. Wellens, as much as I love him, is a total liability. He's far too slow, which means both wingers have no confidence in him and are always compensating for him. The fact that neither can deal with a high kick means its a massive vulnerability for us.
We looked ten times better when Wellens was off the pitch. It's a controversial decision, but it's one the club has to make and make soon IMO.

| We also need a goalkicker. Foster is useless. He only ever kicks them from direct in front.

| Not a bad first match, but the nearly men of RL look like continuing their traditional approach to the season.
And what has happened to Eastmond?

Fantastic throughout the whole 80 cracking player. The only player i was worried about with ball in hand bar the odd Puletua run.

| Credit to our spirit for hanging in there. But in terms of rugby that was pretty poor. Our defence was okay, I thought, although certainly not great, but our attack was abysmal. Kyle nearly stank the roof off.

Agree about us looking tired cos of the defence, but we were also missing Fielden who goes through a heck of a lot of tackles and think we definately missed him through the middle today. I also think that us looking a bit toothless was because Deacon went off, forced us to play another 2nd rower in the halves which is inevitably going to reduce our attacking edge.
Disappointed with the last try as well though, a mile forward.
We were lucky to escape in the end though.

| If it was an option I'd cash in on Eastmond now. He should have been dominating and demanding but he sat back far too often.

Wasn't that decision correct because the ball wasn't on the floor?

| I have openly criticised Francis Meli in the past but I though he also played well today, bar the mix up with Wellens for Wigan's second try. I thought Roby, Puletua, Soliola and Meli were our stand out players today. Wilkin didn't do too bad either.
Wigan's defence in the first half was amazing but they struggled to keep it up once fatigue starting kicking in. Simmons simply has to address the lack of width in our defence, we were overlapped on countless occasions with ease.
I think the 'invincible' Wigan looked very vulnerable today and quite easily beatable. They have a few players to come back but then so do we; Pryce, Flannery and Perry. All in all I think if we was more clinical and our defence can be sured up a little more there is no reason why we shouldn't of won that game by 10+ points. Wigan looked dangerous with their chances in the first half whereas we looked flat. Some attacking flair (which Pryce can bring) will see us scoring plenty.
Also after all the hype, Jeff Lima did absolutely nothing.

| Wigan played well and we were crap for the majority of the game and the Pies still couldn't beat us. Even with having a commanding lead at one point.

I don't think we were that crap tbh. In the first half for the majority of it we was all over them, the part of our game that was crap was finishing. Wigan's goal line defence was fantastic but also we made some stupid errors and poor passes. I would like to see some territory stats for the game. The only reason Wigan took a 16-0 lead was because they could finish and we couldn't.

I love Wello don't get me wrong. But look where Saints take the first tackle most times tonight. Look where Wigan do. Saints pack made more metres (I'd guess) than they did but they always ended up 20m further down field. That's because Wello doesn't get to kicks on the full and doesn't return them that far, despite often beating a man.
I would also love to know why Meli and Gardner rush to the middle whenever there is a high ball? They are often left hopelessly out of position. If they had confidence in Wello why would they do that?
His tackling is still good, the one to hold the Goon up over the line was quality. But I still feel we'd be far better off with a pacy player at fullback.

Well seeing as Wello went off injured, presuming he isnt fit for next week who would you like there? Lomax or Foster?
Personally i'd go with Lomax as I think he has more ball skill than Foster add maybe has a yard of pace on him too. But Foster's goalkicking could come into the decision, although he doesnt seem to be able to kick them off the touchline.
