Quote ="The Chair Maker"Totally agree. The name is very easy on the tongue, and has the big advantage that it doesnt even sound like a sponsored stadium, which will mean the media will use it without any thought about giving away free advertising.
The name is also A-political which isnt really the case with getting sponsored by certain companies.
Langtree are onto a winner with this as even if after a number of years they fail to renew the sponsorship, people will probably still refer to it as Langtree park.
Using park in the name also conjures up legendary sporting venues such as Lang Park, Croke Park, Villa Park, St.James Park, Fenway Park, and dare i say it Central Park. The last one in particular will be a subtle and cruel reminder to all pies of what they used to have. Especially when they walk past Tesco's to get to our stadium.'"
I doubt any Wigan fan would be reminded by Langtree Park of Central Park.
We don't need any subtle or cruel reminder. Those Wigan fans fortunate enough to have been to CP will never, ever forget it.
Yes in an ideal world I'd like Wigan to have our "own" stadium, but in an ideal world you'd probably prefer your club to be able to generate bigger crowds. An 18,000 capacity stadium just wouldn't be big enough for Wigan, so on merely practical grounds we can't envy you.
I have to say though that it looks a great ground. I know the Langtree guys and they are a good outfit. They've worked very hard for years on this project and really have delivered for the town.
