| Kanye West is a classic example of what the modern day 'music superstar' has become. His celebrity status, circus entourage and controversial publicity stunts precede anything musical about him. He could have farted into the microphone for an hour last night and would still have had a field full of morons praising his genius on Twitter. The number one news story about his whole Glastonbury appearance seems to be a selfie Kim Kardashian took while they flew in by helicopter. Sad really.

| Ed Sheeran - Started off quite promising, at least 'The A Team' had a subject material that wasn't 'boy loves girl etc etc' Now, everything he does is made-for-radio drivel ballads for housewives;
''Loving can hurt... loving can hurt sometimes.. but it's the only thing that makes me feel alive'
Bravo, Ed... song-writing cliche 101 there
And don't get me STARTED on that horrific track with him and Pharrell. Just... disgusting
Does seem like a nice lad though mind

| Hate is a strong word but I really can't stand The Beatles, or anything by them as individual artists.
I will admit they have good songs, think most acts do have a few decent songs mind.

Not keen on them either - and to make it worse my favorite local radio station (Sam FM - Bristol), which usually plays 70s & 80s stuff, has now added Beatles songs to their playlist too

What is it you dislike about the so much? Or is it the hype around them that you dislike rather than actually listening to the tracks & albums with an open mind?

| Re: The Beatles
For me its the endless repetitive playing of their "popular" tunes rather than the exposure of the diverse talent that I can only assume is there given an extensive back catalogue. Hence, its doesn't demonstrate greatness, but sing along popularity, which having grown up in the NW becomes a bit incessant. However, its enough to put me off exploring their music further.

The hype brought my attention to them, they often top lists of best albums: Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper come to mind. Being open minded about music, was more than willing to give 'The best band/albums of all time' a go and they just didn't do anything for me. I haven't listened to all or even half of their stuff but I didn't like what I heard so didn't bother with the rest.
I get that they were a massive influence on music and pop culture but musically I don't get it. I think the fact that The Beatles are the only band you tend to hear with the tag as 'The Greatest Band Ever' is something I get annoyed at as music is supposed to be subjective.

| Well, awesome, Adele is back with more bland, dull, boring, over-hyped rubbish, with the pomp and ceremony of what seems like the entire world's media behind her. I can't wait for her new single to be played 5 times a day while i'm at work, with the DJ's fawning themselves into a coma every single time.

I was astounded by the hype surrounding her new song. All mainstream radio stations were fawning over it, even BBC TV news got in on the act. She is an overrated run of the mill singer/songwriter but it comes across as though she's some sort of musical messiah.

Spot on. What the world sees in this overhyped (at times, pubsingeresque) I will never know.
On Friday, Gobpooh Evans was gushing over this formulaic pish, reminding us at every opportunity that he was going to/has played this song. So what.
Yet another "flavour of the month" act getting put on a pedestal, when their output is mediocre. It puts me in mind of the media juggernaut which was the release of Oasis' Be Here Now in 1997. All and sundry telling us that it was a work of genius, only for the Gallagher bros themselves to admit that they weren't happy with it, a couple of months after release. Guess what, the media then backtrack, and then say it wasn't very good, after all.
Can we also put that ginger dullard Ed Shearen in the same category, please.

I just don't get it. In fairness, perhaps i SHOULDN'T, i mean i'm a 30 year-old straight male, i'm clearly not Adele's demographic (women, women just broken up)... but 52million views on YT in 2 days, they can't ALL be the demographic i mentioned, can they? The hype is ridiculous, i've heard the first 60 secs of the song, it sounds like everything she's done before, none of THAT was 'genius' either. Yes, i've had my say on Sheeran on this thread recently, painfully average made-for-radio crap, dressed up by many as ''amazing' (industry buzzword i suppose). It aggravates me way more than it should.
I'm a big fan of Jake Bugg (though it annoys me he's used a co-writer), some great songs and he's a bloody good guitarist, but never heard him on radio bar the occasional Radio One play, yet singer/writer/guitarists such as George Ezra/James Bay and Hozier are all over commercial radio. Baffles me
I still like Be Here Now though

| Olly Murs - that he has achieved the level of success, fame and wealth he appears to enjoy, with such an obvious absence of talent beyond that of a local pub karaoke singer, is beyond my comprehension; I am instantly and long-lastingly irritated the second he appears on any broadcast medium.

Your post would be equally apt if replaced by the tuneless creature which is, Ellie Goulding. Horrible.

And now that he is well and truly one of Cowell's golden boys, his 15 minutes of fame is going to be stretched out even longer. He had a great amount of luck in that he popped up at the time when cheeky Essex chappies were opiate for the masses. The whole concept of him makes me want to vomit.

Two albums of formulaic, bleeding heart nonsense and a poorly executed Bond theme sounding like Shirley Bassey doing drunken karaoke. It doesn't matter how average 25 will be, the media will tell us all that it's the work of a legendary musical genius.

| As I type, the license fee payer is currently subsidising a glorified commercial, for the most overhyped nonsense in years. i.e. the new Adele release.
Having been subjected to "previously unheard" songs throughout the day, I can only conclude that the "loveable Cockney sparrow" has done what she did for the previous 2 releases, namely bawl her way through "woe is me" break up /you aint having me/looking for love/can we be together forever, songs.
Yes, the gullible British (and the rest of the planet, to be fair) will swallow this "return to genius" offering.
Vincent Van Gogh had the right idea, chopping off his ear. He new what was coming.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you "Chasing Pavements". That's even worse than Vienna, by Ultravox

| I was subjected to the X Factor this weekend, at the hands of my youngest daughter, whom I can only conclude from her enjoyment of the show has turned out wrong; god have mercy on my soul, I've spawned a monster.
That aside, I'm absolutely staggered at the level of hype that surrounds this festival of mediocrity; the 'performers' are bland and given varying degrees of electronic assistance, based (I assume) on who Simon Cowell has decided will be most marketable as the eventual winner; the judges emote and hold forth on the incredible stoicism and talent of their karaoke stars, as if they were potential nobel prize winners and lives were at stake; and the audience bays and howls like a mob at a gladiatorial contest - whilst I'm told that 3 million people cast votes on their phones, which highlights the unfettered rise of dumb Britain and further degrades my faith in the future of mankind.
Simon Cowell has killed pop music, and destroyed the whole of civilisation. Probably.

Same here and I agree with everything you say although I really don't think the majority of fans care about what is obviously a karaoke competition, even the dullest of dullards must be able to identify that it's all a sham. No, they have a much more sick and twisted interest in the whole celebrity aura which surrounds the show. They are in effect watching the journey of the next face of Iceland, the next front page sex scandal in the Sun, the next contestant on the merry-go-round of celebrity reality TV. Just look at Olly Murs, from contestant to presenter, the ultimate symbol of aspiration for the Heat magazine generation. If you're of any value to Simon Cowell's wallet, anything is possible. The singing is just a means to an end, nobody gives a toss about the music, it's all about the potential of a nobody becoming the next to have their well documented 15 minutes of fame. And if there's a nervous breakdown in there all the better!
I too was left with little faith in the future of mankind and a feeling that very soon we will have 'may contain milk' stickers plastered all over cartons of milk for the dumbest dumb heads of dumb Britain.
