To be fair, Nirvana and many other grunge bands used the exact same musical formula as you describe Mumford & Sons having.

I'm not a huge Mumford's fan, but there are several over hyped bands out there who outdo them with regards to blandness....(hello Biffy Clyro..

).

Says it all, I really hate Nirvana!!

Too many good albums last year, but these are the ones that come to mind immediately.

Jaya The Cat - New Sounds Of International Hedonism - ska meets dubstep meets punk and they all have a fine time in the pub.
Roughneck Riot - This Is Our Day - Punk and folk, two bedfellows that you'd not normally associate, but this works REALLY well.
Faintest Idea - Ignorance Is This - skapunk brilliance, equal to Keighley's brilliant Random Hand (who didn't have an album out this year, but needed a mention anyway....)

Finally, my out-and-out album of the year...

The Skints - Part & Parcel. London non-rasta reggae band finally get their stuff together and put out an absolute scorcher of an album. Essential listening for any fans of any form of reggae or ska.

There supposed to be great live,anybody seen them?

I haven't seen them, though I must admit I like the sound of the stuff I've heard from them.... They will probably suffer from all the hype and attention they are receiving, and many will write them off because of this.

Also, I think the Inspiral Carpets might be wondering why they didn't get so much hype for a pretty identical sound....

Mat Zo Esstential Mix on Radio 1 last night was sublime, simply superb

I like it, feels lovely in the breakdown

But yeh, I see it has had a bit of a mixed reaction. Missed Mat Zo essential mix, but heard good things

If you compare it to the club mix of "On My Way To Heaven" there is no comparison! If you can try catch Mat Zo's mix on Iplayer, it is genre busting 120 minutes, superb






The new Tegan & Sara album is interesting, synthy & poppy. Change of style which is good, but needs more guitars

Flying Lotus-Until The Quiet Comes was my fave album of last year, Warp Records have some interesting talent on their roster and one of the finest is American producer Flying Lotus, this is his fourth studio album and shows him experimenting with electronic jazz with dreamlike, psychedelic effects. Some decent collaborations on the record too.

Legends by Dirt Box Disco

Anyone going to see the Misfits in Leeds or Manchester get their early as they are one of the most entertaining live bands around and doubt you will be disapointed....Goldblade are not so bad as main support either.

If only Mr. Danzig was there.

Its alright, it's not as good as Arty & PvD collabaration for me (I also liked his BT track)

Need to listen to Armins latest stuff, not really listened to much of his stuff since Mirage release
