| It'lll go to Powell but a good point I read elsewhere, considering it'll be awarded before the GF what if Hull win the GF? As good as Cas have been Redford winning a double would be worthy of coach of the year.

Yes, but it's coach of the year, not coach of a couple if finals. Powell by a country mile.

| It should be awarded after the grand final, why does the most important game of the year not count towards the coach of the year, or man of steel awards.

Because people should be judged on a full season, not just one match. Luck plays a big part in single matches, a longer period gives a better judgement.

Winning those finals separates the great teams from the good teams.

It doesn't separate a good coach from an average one though, which is what the award is for.

To be fair mate FC are more expected to be challenging more than Cas are Powell has stripped that Team/Squad down & rebuilt it into a table topping side easily playing the best RL this year.
Thus far FC have repeated what they did last year & like i said its hardly unexpected.

At the start of the year most bookies had Cas around 4th favourites ahead of Hull and us (Wire, Wigan and Saints ahead of them) so they weren't exactly unfancied to do well.
Powell and Cas were pushing for LLS and cup runners up in 2014 whilst Hull were finishing 11th before Radford took over the next season.

| Slightly off topic but has anyone ever wondered about how the hell Hull FC stay under the salary cap ? Absolutely littered with NRL quality players, some who have played lots of NRL And some who are still good enough for NRL. A fine efforr keeping that bunch of stars under the cap.
Powell by plenty. If Cas win 1 more game we will have won SL by a record margain not to mention the PD. Hull have been really inconsistent this season and their squad on paper is the best in the league imo .

Do you win any extra trophy for that?
Interesting all the talk about Cas' attack being so amazing. 28 games in and they're scored just 11 more points than we did at this stage in 2015.
Also if we beat Hudds next week we'll end up on 40 points, which will be just one point less than the 41 we won in 2015 and that last point was won with 4 seconds to spare.

I would definitely say that. Radford is poor, and that Hull side is poor. Win GF or not, and they won't, that doesn't change that opinion, it just highlights again how poor others have been.
Powell easily top over a season. Chester with what achieved against expectations second.

For sure, the double with the cup final where it is now so close to the play offs is special and really difficult to pull off.

Its not how i see it but you are entitled to your opinion.
How laughable would it be were Hull go to Cas and knock them out of both comps. On the way to winning a double Yet The coach who won nowt gets the award!

What an absolute load of crap that is.
Radford has just won back to back challenge cups. Still in with a chance of winning the GF too but if they did manage that its cos everyone else was crap?
Yet Cas win the LLS and what - everyone was great?

| Has anyone got a breakdown of the coach of the year awards during the SL era? (TVOC ?)
I'm sure that in some of these years that some obvious winners due to their clubs trophy success' haven't actually won the award

| 2009: Nathan Brown (Aus) - Huddersfield Giants
2010: Michael Maguire (Aus) - Wigan Warriors
2011: Trent Robinson (Aus) - Catalans Dragons
2012: Mick Potter (Aus) - Bradford Bulls
2013: Paul Anderson (Eng) - Huddersfield Giants
2014: Daryl Powell (Eng) - Castleford Tigers
2015: Brian McDermott (Eng) - Leeds Rhinos
2016: Lee Radford (Eng) - Hull FC
So we'll probably see a repeat of 2013 then?

| I think Chester is a good shout given what he has at his disposal compared to others. Powell is the obvious choice even if they are yet to win something other than LLS. You could make a case for Radford, and I also think Mac deserves some credit for our turnaround.
They'd probably be my top four, given the post above shows odds don't further a back to back winner, I'd go Powell or Chester.
