Yes - you can have it both ways, that's the point I was making. The fans who you heard giving abuse were doing what sports fans do week in week out. When the incident happened though those same fans chanted Chev's name because they recognised how nasty the injury was. That's because under all the abuse / banter / wind up chants there is a level of respect which has set rugby league apart from other sports over the years.

There was no need for you to mention the abuse that certain fans were hurling at all. You were trying to hijack the thread and turn it into a slanging match and that is below the belt.

You will notice that most of the posts on here are wishing Chev all the best and saying nothing else. There's a reason for that.

My comments were directed towards the supporters of my team who were abusing CW prior to the incident (there were plenty in the SS I can assure you)

I heard plenty of people abuse CW, some booed his name when the teams were first read out, Lawrie didn't hear that. However, if you actually grasped the point I was making (which you clearly haven't yet) you'd know that the distinction is academic, abuse of KR or abuse of CW, doesn't matter.
I have no problem with people being rumbustious, I don't actually have a problem in terms of my own sensibilities with people being offensive and abusive (I've followed Leeds RL and United away in the 80s, 90s and 00s and heard and seen plenty, although I'm sure kids don't need to hear it). My problem was with those who hand out said abuse (whether at CW or just at the opposition and their fans) and then want to pat themselves on the back, get all self-congratulatory and bang on about 'respect' in our game and the fact we're sooooo different from other sports because they clapped CW.

I heard some abuse of Chev prior to his injury on Friday.

Injured players recieve a warm reception in all sports.

Players react the same, in the carling cup final a few years ago nal players were waving the physios on immediatly when john terry was knocked out.

Apparently though, these things only happoen in rugby leasgue and it's why the game is so special.
