The players and the management responded to the ill informed clap trap by doing what they do best.

It's very uncomfortable for those who said these things but I'm sure they'll be fine with Colonel Gilder leading the charge.

That's if they come out of the bushes where they've been hiding since Saturday.

If people re-read the thread they'll find posts from more than a list of usual suspects and find some criticism of the coach who went on to make history at the season end.

Are they embarrassed by what they said mid season and should they be anyway?

I've said on another thread that it is possible that we could win nothing next year, the thing is that the exact same group of players have just won it 3 times in a row so talk about individuals not being good enough or bringing other players in would just be silly, we know they are more than good enough to do it and we also know that we are more than good enough to get over a mid season slump.

Personally, I would never knee jerk about this squad of players. They have more than earned my loyalty.

If they want to play on until they retire they will get my unswerving support, even if they do not continue this golden run.

But I understand that loyalty is a two way street.

I find it unsurprising on this forum that those who slagged of the players ,coach and chief exec are not being derided as churlish but those of us exposing them are.

Mind you, for some, THIS record breaking season wasn't good enough because we didn't win the CC and the WCC as well.

I was suffering post traumatic stress from the 1980's. For me it's like flashbacks for a Vietnam vet. All of a sudden I'm watching David Laws at Elland Road going in at the corner (and dropping the ball - but still "scoring"icon_wink.gif, or it's 1984 and Joe Lydon is gathering a kick and sweeping around Ian Wilkinson. I stopped counting at 9 semi-final defeats in a row. I have scars, I'm human, I'm occaisionaly weak.

reading shane webckes book and it's a great,interesting read. he states good coaches will allow top players to have the odd awful games and not worry whatsoever because when crunch time comes they will deliver.

Let me summarise the position I have constantly taken throughout this season, as has been evidenced by historical links produced.

I expressed concern about discipline, I expressed support for the Board, the players and the coach, I expressed hope and belief that Mclennan would get us a title and I predicted a title much, much earlier than anyone else and I did it when things were bad, and not on the crest of a wave. I qualified that prediction by saying we would win the GF again if we sorted our discipline.

IIRC fanstanningley replied that I was making a big call. I was. I was right.
