| I've said from the start its Agar's job to lose. He is seen as a good coach by the hierarchy at Leeds.
Agars issue is every loss will see the fans wanting him out and he will never be accepted by the fans but then McDermott wasnt either. The club have to decide if they are prepared to go through all that.
We all need to rally round Agar for the next 6 games because surviving in Super League has to be the only focus at the moment.

| Quote ="KaeruJim"We can’t compete with NRL clubs for first grade starter players, on the whole, or proven first grade coaches. The drift is the opposite direction. Another problem with a Bellamy style signing would be their expectations working with a DoR like Sinfield.
Our best chance would be an up and coming Aussie looking to prove their worth to get an NRL gig IMO. But that’s risky. There are some english coaches I like but none that are really proven.'"
I'd much prefer to give a young English coach a chance. Watson or Ford.

I only say Aussie / NZ because I believe the talent pool is much bigger and there are ambitious coaches there who have been in world class systems.
There are some decent English coaches too of course. Sounds like Powell was Plan A but... wouldn’t be surprised if Agar kept the job with an assistant as per Carr.

| Richard Agar seems like a really nice bloke, however he has absolutely no track record as a successful coach. His record since taking the job is mixed at best, we do not look anything like a decent team.
Simply being the man in the job at the moment cannot be a qualifying criteria to be coach at Leeds, we must have someone who has previous experience of winning, and bringing through younger players as our future must be built upon them.
If the current hierarchy can’t see or work in that way, then they are the wrong hierarchy.

| Bang on. Couldnt agree more. Agars record like you say is mixed since his arrival. Hes steadied the ship but hes also had some money to spend with no sign of a huge improvement.. hes not the man long term.

| I'd like to see us get a coach who you could see at the club for the next 5 years at least. For me, Agar is a decent bloke and I think is a decent coach. He seems to have brought the team together, but at the same time after this season, I think the best he could get us to is the edge of the playoffs. I don't see him as a title winning coach. Time to get the right person in to start with, give them a season of being mid-table and aim for silverware 2021.

| The obvious measure is whether we survive in SL or not, as to how successful Agar has been. We were in all sorts of disarray when he took over from Furner.
I think the players and other senior staff will have seen enough from Agar to make the right call either way. He might not even want to job anyway.
I don't know whether Agar is a title-winning coach or not; but I do know we'll need some new players either way.

| Managing the squad must be a nightmare. Every time a hole is plugged by signing someone a new weakness appears. It really shows how awful so many of the squad were that started the season.
Agar may have steadied things a bit but he's hardly set the world on fire, with actual results only marginally better. We've just lost 2 on the bounce at home that we looked like a chance in, and there's really only Ward left who would add much, so there aren't many excuses left now.
To me if Sinfield's role is an issue stopping us getting a top coach then the answer isn't dropping our standards, its changing Sinfield's role. Part of him showing he has what it takes is getting the right coach and then letting them do their job.

| saints will announce a top coach within a fortnight. we've been dicking around with a totally unsuitable, poor coach for months.
all I hear is he steadied the ship. we will probably be bottom by Monday with 5 games left
incompetence.

| There's no doubt a really good quality coach could make a big difference but the utter collapse in morale, indiscipline and general mediocrity will take some shifting.
Just think how bad the culture would have got without JJB and Ablett in the squad. They must be contributing something after all....

Agreed. The head coach is the most important person at the club and the most influential. Getting this right is paramount for the future

| The Club has swiftly gone downhill and is supposed to have reached rock bottom , it can only get worse by relegation or appointing Agar as full time coach .

| Probably because we have yet to find one or Agar has the job.
We had a half decent coach in Furner.
Not saying he was my first choice but he probably had more ideas than Agar and Sinfield put together but wasn`t given the backing.
Could be why we are struggling to find anyone who will take it on now.

| I don't think Furner will stop a lot of coaches being interested. But it will mean they'll want locked in compensation in the event they're dumped. Any Aussie in the running would be mad not to get Furner's views as well - that might cut interest.

Ha ha superb post. Same. It makes me furious thinking about it. What the hell is Sinfield doing... Saints moving quickly and astutely whilst we p&ss about with mediocricy.
