| Quote ="thebloodbath"On Mac, whether you'd rather see him move on or retain him, you wonder how long he has left in general terms. He's in his 4th year in charge, do these coaching roles at one club last much longer on average? A different perspective with a set group could offer freshness and possibly new leases of life in old dogs.
As for Mac having the responsibility over-seeing handing the reins to over to obvious key member(s) of the current team, I'd like to see him working with an assistant coach first!'"
Short-term may be the rule in SL but Alex Ferguson showed what can happen if you keep a good manager in place and importantly bring in the tactical/fitness specialists underneath.
Personally, I would like to see how Mac gets on without the distractions of will he wont he stay
We are going to need a new squad in the coming years do we really need a new manager at the same time?
Thought for further discussion I guess

| Pep-I think the fact that there is an upcoming huge squad/transition is partly why the question of will he wont he stay has reared again along with the obvious time he has been here.
For me If he is staying then at the very least we need 1 more assistant on his staff and hopefully one that will bring fresh ideas and also able to stand up to Mac when bouncing in pre/in game tactics ideas around.
The size of the upcoming transition should not be under estimated so if there is a plan for a new head coach then imo it has to be at the end of this year or at the very latest the end of 2015.

I agree.by the start of 2016 we will surely be looking at the prospect of having lost JP and kylie for sure.and who knows how much longer JJB sinfield,Mcguire and Burrow have left but im sure they all wont continue until their mid 30's so the transition will be In full swing.
Do we stick with Mac to see us through this period? Nobody really knows how long a transition like this will take, and this one wont be easy at all with so many all time greats finishing around the same time so it could be a while until we get back to being a major force.my personal view is we should bring in a new head coach to oversee this but im sure GH has his views and all will become clear over the next year or so.

I don't for one minute believe that either McDermott or Hetherington are distracted by any speculation on a forum such as this & why should they be?
The fans may think this an issue but not those who run the club.
Anybody who on here who thinks differently is in my view deluded as to their importance/role in the overall scheme of things.

I don't think anyone on here thinks that is the case - however the idea that fans don't influence decisions at board level is naive. Any business that doesn't listen to its customers is going to struggle. GH is a very shrewd operator and doesn't make many mistakes, one of the reasons is he takes into consideration the views of and impact of his decisions on all stakeholder groups.

Any thoughts on the salary range the club should provide. Also you will have to give serious thought as to what should be your company car . My pal has just bought the latest top of the range jaguar,it's superb so that might do the trick for you.
Don't forget you will need company shares , plus an indexed linked pension.

My post was in reference to the comments on here about GH & McD being distracted by the speculation re the coach's long term (or even short term) future.
GH does indeed take heed of the fans when it's in his & the club's interest to do so. The recently announced deal for the purchase of next year's season tickets being in my view the latest manifestation of this.

The first thing we learn is that some fans have poor recollection of detail - unless you also think Leeds would try to copy a fellow existing SL club's 'nickname' in 1997.
__________
McDermott took a London side that in the ten SL seasons prior to his arrival had averaged a 6.7 league table finish and after four full seasons in charge left them in 13th having averaged 10.5
It's easy to see what the Leeds CEO sees in him - I doubt it's related to talent.

Yes because others have done so much better since with that London team haven't they.
And let's not gloss over that was his first super league coaching job. If you performed as well in your job in your first year than you do after 4-5 years experience then you are doing something seriously wrong.
Meanwhile, Mac has demonstrated his ability in coaching with several successful seasons with us already, but that doesn't suit your agenda does it.

| When Tony Smith was Leeds coach there were many people who were of the opinion that most of the success was down to his assistant. Some of those fans are the same fans calling for his head now.

| I do not think forums are truly representative of fans opinions. The regular posters are made up the retired or the unemployed and feature a high percentage of the complainers.
Some posters express very strange logic with regard to changing the coach.
Before, these same posters wanted him out in his first season. They then had to take a large bite of humble pie as Mac got to Wembley and won the Championship. Showing the same impatience in his second season there were calls again for a change. Mac once more confounded these self declared sages as he again took the team to the Cup Final and a second Championship win.
Having been so wrong twice before these keyboard coaches grasped at a failure to win a third Championships on the trot as proof that Mac wasn't up to the job and they had been right all along, despite a serious injury handicap.
Now despite a good first half of the season and still in 2nd spot and the Cup semi the knives are out yet again from these so-faithful supporters. Their latest logic is that a new coach is required to oversee the up coming changes in the squad caused by retirements of key players.
For some it hasn't dawned yet that BM has been managing a transition since he arrived. Replacements for Web, Ali, Buderus, Smith etc a new set of backs already in place, several talented young players now with first team experience. A new proven NRL prop already signed to cover one key spot. He (and GH) are half way already in the transitional period.
There is no logic to say that another coach would be better to complete the job. In fact there is logic in saying it would be a greater gamble for a new coach to win over the aging stars who will still be key to our success over the next couple of seasons. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

What agenda? McDermott is IMO a very poor coach whose teams put in largely sub-standard collective performances relying almost entirely on individual efforts. As in all walks of life you get what you pay for.
