As it happens, if Buderus perfroms like we know he can for the rest of the year I'd consider a new deal and send McShane out on loan for 12 months. That would go against what people say about McShane learning from him though.

I still dont think we should have signed Buderus though.

Why would Buderus leave if he signs to stay on for another 12 months?

If he get's injured and is out for any length of time Leeds will do what all teams have to do in that situation ... cope.

Fair do's. I thought I was probably missunderstanding your point re Buderus.

I'm sure it will be Diskin and McShane next season. What people are forgetting about McShane's situation is that he will have been spoken to by the coaching staff, and no doubt told that if he shows patience he will be the rotation hooker once Buderus leaves. He hasn't been left in the dark and frozen out completely. Buderus may want to play on but I'd be very surprised if that was with us.

If Buderus shows the form from his peak then it's a tough decision to let him go.

That it is. But as I've said on another thread, I'm a big fan of his, but the club has to look a little more long term. I think Buderus' coming out and saying he fancies another year has given them a problem they didn't want or anticipate.

Not if we also keep Buderus until the "youngsters" gain experience.

Is there any need for personal insults for expressing an alternative idea to yours which obviously is biased towards Diskin.

I apologise for suggesting you might be biased against Buderus. The thing is though we DID sign him.

Having 2 hookers in the 17 doesn't work great for us or it hasn't so far. If next season Diskin and McShane are in the 17 every week and it still isn't working what do we do then?
I'd forget about how many years Diskin and Buderus have left in them because some people are saying Diskin has 3 years left and Buderus has 1. Menzies is playing at 36 and doing well, Buderus is what, 32, so he could have 3-4 years left. At the end of the season i hope the club let one go and retain the one who has shown the best form throughout the year, forget the sentimentality towards Diskin because he's won GF's, you want the best hooker for next season and for McShane to be given a chance.
IMO they should both be given a chance to play 80 minutes at hooker for a couple of games each and the best one to get the spot and the other be dropped with an extra forward on the bench and have to wait for his chance to get back in either through training hard or injury.

To save any arguments about favoratism or biased the club could just release both hookers at the end of the season, give McShane his chance and move Burrow to the impact bench role with Mags 7 and Sinni 6.

I still would like to see us go with McShane with Burrow as impact hooker and a class half back in there. But think the club will cotton on to this too late.

I dont think we get the best out of either player when both in the 17, against catalans Diskin had a very good game stayed on the pitch and imposed himself, against hull buderus was left on for longer than usual and i thought he had a good game until we started to interchange. neither player can get into the game when both play and are interchanged several times a game. Leeds would in my opinion be better utilising the cap money somewhere else and not on buderus.

I dont think Buderus will be here next season. i think the only way he would be at Leeds next term would be if he took a drastically reduced contract (which i doubt he will). If he was to take a massive pay cut to free up space then i suppose mcShane could be loaned out (which im surprised he hasnt been this season).

McShane fills the "impact" role off the bench much better than either Diskin or Buderus IMO, so the two hooker rotation is viable for 2011 and beyond if it's McShane + 1.

If you give me a choice of keeping one of either Diskin or Buderus, then on current form it would be Diskin every time.

I'd rather let Buderus go back to Aus and retain Diskin than retain 32 year old Buderus and let Diskin sign for a rival.

I'm still not convinced Buderus has been better for Leeds than Diskin so far, and in the longer term we'd get more out of Diskin.

Besides, it's time for McShane to dabble in the first team now - he's shown he's capable the few times he's been called upon.

I watched McShane v Wigan in the U20's at Orrell a few weeks back. He was awful. Logan Tomkins ran him ragged.

That's because all Wigan's youngsters are eight-armed Octomen from a different planet to every other youth system in the country, especially the Tomkins family.

According to Wigan fans anyway.

Well we've seen him have many great games more often than not and most rate him highly so i wouldn't get too carried away with him having a bad game.
Saying that any opportunity to "big up" the superhuman Pie acadamy can't be missed can it RG?

why was mcshane given such a brief 1st team cameo the other week?

looked livelier than either buderus or diskin & probably could be a better scrum half than burrow too @ the moment

It was an overall opinion taking into account his brief 1st team games and reserve(u20) outings which RG mentioned he'd been poor in.
I'm not annointing him the "next big thing" either but IF he continues his development and performs to his undoubted potential he WILL be the next big thing that the Leeds acadamy has produced imo and i for one look forward to seeing him serve our club hopefully for many years ala the "Golden generation".
