It's your obsession with Tomkins that is strange! Why are you so keen to blame Tomkins for something somebody else did? Tomkins was trapped under JJB, he had no control over the pressure anybody else put on JJB. You seem unable to take the defeat with the grace that most of your fellow fans have. This obsession with Tomkins and finding something to moan about can't be good for you. Having said that you are so entertaining!

The JJB tackle is a difficult one to call because only the players involved will know if there was any intent, what's indisputable is that JJB ended up in a very dangerous position and when that occurs the tacklers are responsible, so like it or not they are all, Tomkins included, at fault for that. I'm a bit surprised that more hasn't been made of his deliberate kick at JJB's face in the first half, Smith's on Finch in the second half was wreckless, but he was lashing out trying to regain his feet and couldn't see, whereas Tomkins could see JJB and deliberately tried to kick him in the face. If that's not a sin binning or red card offence then I really don't know what is.

All that aside, and ignoring the fact that I thought he was a bit lucky to get MOM ahead of McIllorum, he is a superb player and the longer he stays in Super League the better.

your being abit harsh on jjb here i know he has a MASSIVE head and jaw but i dont think it goes all the way down to hes chest! it was stupid what sam did but every other ref would of called the penalty long before as jjb kept pushing hes legs down so he couldn't get up. also he didnt kick him in the face or even in the chest it was more him pushing out to get up and he hit him on hes chest. but leeds have big form of kicking players in the head senior on tomkins i remember, and last night fair enough smith may have not seen finch but when your swining and kicking you feet up in the air like that your asking for trouble.

i think its just cautions all round from redhall.

Not exactly 'big form' even if you had remembered the Lee Smith one on Phil Bailey in the Final Eliminator at Headingley in 2008.

Lets not pretend it's a common practice at any club, it occassionally happens and it's usually after the defender transgresses first.

I seem to recall Burrow being on the end of one at the DW last season also but I'll try not to imply Wigan are becoming noted for it.

There is no way to avoid it the kid's outstanding. The niggling is 50/50, he is on the receiving end and feels he has to give it back. The feet up on JJB was nothing but the low tackle put the ball carrier in a dangerous position and should be looked at. Somebody is going to get really hurt.

Tomkins is the best player to emerge in GB since Farrell and Sculthorpe. Compare the way he treated the ball behind the line and the way the likes of Webb and Smith did!!. His attacking runs are superb the one in the second half that lead to Charnley's try was stunning.

He doesn't try to milk penalties like he used to and hold on to the tackler's arm etc. There's still some niggle to game, but fair enough, he'll take a lot more than he'll get. There's no doubting how exciting a runner he is and he's improved his defensive fullback play but he'd still be exploitable at that if he wasn't in a dominant team.

We'll see exactly how good he is when he goes to the NRL. He'll be a level behind Slater, who's beyond ridiculous as an attacking threat and knows his positioning and try-stopping better, but I think he'd still be outstanding.

There isn't a player in the NRL that isn't a level behind Slater, the finest FB of the modern era.

Yes. It isn't in any way an insult to Sam Tomkins to say he isn't as good as Billy Slater.

At this stage I think he would find it difficult in the NRL and would be found out. Lets face it the likes of Wellens and on last nights performance Webb would even make Richie Mathers look like a world beater. He needs to match up with the best before you can call him a great player, not some of the mediocre that's dotted about in the super league.
