| Leeds Owl in respect of attendences Hull's last successful era was in the early/mid 80's when we regularly draw crowds of 16k despite winning nowhere near as many trophies as Leeds have done for a sustained period in Super League. During the early 80's Leeds were poor just like Hull have been for a number of years. Using an example in 1981-82 Leeds finished 6th in the league and their average attendance was just over 5k. You are either too young to remember those barren years or have a short memory. Hull and Rovers fans travelled in great numbers in those days ( just like they do now in fact) and used to fill the South Stand. Also in the eighties Rovers despite winning far fewer trophies than Leeds have done in recent years sometimes attracted crowds of 10k plus. It also has to be put in context that as a whole average crowds are far higher today than in the early mid 80's. Reflect on this before having a pop at Hull's crowds.

| Why do people get such an hard on over crowds? Hull fans, both sides have always had a vivid imagination with their army of numbers.
That said, throughout any period, they always come to Headingley in large numbers, as they do most grounds, and are usually the supporters making the most noise. I could label Hull fans with many things, but low on numbers is not one of them.

| Wow, Rhinos. You know you are having a bad season when you are trying to big up the crowds rather than the team.
I'd rather have a winning poorly supported team personally.

Both Hull clubs have decent away followings relative to the sport, we take more away than we get away fans for the return fixture at home - I think that's an accurate statement to make. No doubt Leeds Owl will disagree, but the guy has been on the wind up on both boards this week.
It's good all round IMO. Brings a bit of money in for the home side, and hopefully helps for a better atmos. That's certainly the case at the KC when we get decent away followings.
Anyway, looking forward to a beer or two in Arcadia, the rain to hold off and a decent game.

I can certainly recall the days when I longed for our attendances to match FC's. But
a) That was a long, long time ago, and
b) I don't remember FC regularly drawing 16k crowds. Occasionally, yes.
That said, they have always been what I would consider a very well supported club.

No idea if it's accurate but sounds right. Having a day away from Hull is presumably a bigger pull factor than having a day in Hull.

That would be my recollection also and by way of an example here are all Leeds' visits to play Hull at the Boulevard 79/80 to 89/90:
27-Nov-79 ….. FT ….. Lost ….. 9,551
3-Feb-80 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 11,087
19-Oct-80 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 12,748
15-Feb-81 ….. CC ….. Lost ….. 15,119
16-Aug-81 ….. YC ….. Won ….. 11,194
8-Nov-81 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 13,101
13-Oct-82 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 13,027
1-May-83 ….. PREM ….. Lost ….. 11,845
21-Mar-84 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 10,842
16-Oct-84 ….. YC ….. Lost ….. 10,542
5-Dec-84 ….. CHP ….. Won ….. 9,026
9-Apr-86 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 4,395
2-Nov-86 ….. CHP ….. Won ….. 6,205
6-Apr-88 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 7,024
2-Oct-88 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 7,081
1-Oct-89 ….. CHP ….. Lost ….. 7,774
The wins and losses are from a Leeds point of view and I doubt that comes as any great surprise either.

The 80's average attendances in fixtures between Leeds and Hull were 8,692 at Headingley and 10,035 at the Boulevard.

According to Rothmans Hull had 6x 16k plus attendances in 1981-82.

1981/82 - that would be Hull's return to the top flight? 1982/83 it was down to 3x16k plus attendances (one of those V the touring Aussies, the others Hull KR and oddly Barrow ), then 1983/84 just the one V Hull KR and then 1984/85 not even the derby pulled in 16k to the Boulevard.
Nobody's knocking Hull's attendances in the early 80's - they were the best supported club in the game - just qualifying the frequency of the monster packing out on Airlie Street.

Can't believe just told my dad I can not be bothered going tonight, can't recall other times doing that. Just giving in with the crap on offer. Decided in end to go in seperate cars, so I can get up and leave early if I want, and boo if it is my choosing.

Same here.
CBA category for me tonight. Not even watching it on TV either.
Not as much to do with the poor performances of Leeds for me but more to do with the general tripe on offer throughout SL which is the main factor in my CBA-ness status. I can only stomach watching Catalans these days. At least they've got a few star quality players who are actually worth watching.
Two season tickets not being utilised among my family members. Probably still counted in the official attendance tonight though.
