Looks like Castleford will have this weekend off at this rate (meant to play Wigan at home tomorrow). The Wakey v Widnes game has just been cancelled around 30 mins in.

| I didn't think saints played too bad, they just came up against a team better than the 5 they've beat so far this season.
The ref seemed ok as far as that goes, they made mistakes but they were made to, Leeds made mistakes but were good enough to cover them.
I dunno what all this bitching about the ref and the Sts players being off form is all about, as a neutral I didn't see it.
I watched them pummel Leeds with meters for 50 minutes, I saw Leeds stay in the game by their finger nails against the tide till Sts shot their bolt, and then sneak a couple of lottery tries.
They'll probably get back on the horse next week and start blowing smoke up their own 4r53s but the Friday after we'll be back to bitchin about refs and poor playing form.
weak...

| Quote ="PrinterThe"Will be interesting to see how Saints perform. Has been said on the VT and some other boards that they've mostly had a comfortable fixture list so far. Salford, Hudds and Catalans are all teams fighting to avoid bottom 4. Warrington look quite average after the uncertainty of how much they'd improve in the preseason. Cas on paper should've been a tough test and whilst Saints played well Cas were shocking and not at the races at all and would've probably lost to any team that night on that showing.'"
Printer asked the questions and he was right. Wilkin and Holbrook grudgingly conceding the better team won on the night.......but suggesting if Saints performed anything like they win the game. Think we heard the same in Grand Finals 2007, 2008,2009, and 2011. We seemed to hear the same from Cas personnel and pundits in general after last season’s Grand Final. We outscored Saints 5 tries to 3 on their own midden, with a full pack unavailable through injury. The 6 missing were 4 Grand Finalists from last season and our 2 new signings. Dear oh dear, when are other clubs going to realise that the best teams are mentally and physically strong when the need to be. Jon Wilkin appears more bitter and foolish as the years progress. His tight pants and coffee shop have not helped him to see the bigger picture or allowed him to get a firm grip on reality.

Its probably the most stupid comment any player or coach can make after a loss, that if they played their best they would have won. Do you think maybe Leeds tried one or two things to stop Saints playing their best, you know like general tactics and defensive patterns to dull the oppositions strength and exploit their weaknesses?

| Summed Wilkin up perfectly when Grace caught a high ball but jumped from the field into the in goal. Wilkin was in line and could see it perfectly but still had a moan at the ref.
It's hard to pick fault with any of the team. The game is over 80 minutes and whilst we weren't great in the first 40, our defence gave us the chance to win the game and they took it. So many of the team put their bodies on the line and so missed tackles shouldn't come into it. 2 points that many didn't expect to get and it's not like the Hull game where Saints had some tough calls that cost tries. Whilst they had field position, they didn't really pummel our line. Older guys lead from the front and the youngsters took their chances.

Think your clutching at straws if you think thats a performance to shove down his doubters throats, he fell on a couple of loose balls and thats about it. 19 yearold cam smith was better than him and has hopefully overtaken him in the pecking order. Some people, myself included, just think he's a very poor player, im not scapegoating, i just think he's a terrible player. I love his effort, but thats not enough at super league level.
Agree to disagree if you like but dont think any humble pie needs to be eaten, everyones entitled to there opinion.

Agree with this 100%. Its unbelievable how little credit leeds get, its always the other team having an off day or the refs hammered them. Its like its just a coincidence that these off days always seem to happen against leeds. Like is said above, we went to there home patch, missing our best 3 forwards plus a few others, lost a player after ten minutes, three 19 yearolds and josh walters on the bench, only 3 props in our 17...And we beat them pretty comfortably. Wilkin embarrassed himself in the interview, if saints were at there best , they could of won, but we didnt allow them to be, conversley, if we were at our best, were on our home patch and didnt have half a team missing...We could of won by 50

I think his best one was 2007 when he complained that the Leeds players were making too much noise when they were celebrating their 33-6 win in the dressing room

He posted the same thing twice, didn't get a bite from the one on page 7 so thought he would go again for some reason.
Like yourself, not really sure why humble pie should be eaten here, may sirsinfield would like to point out what Walters did in the game to warrant such a 180 in opinions? Best i can say is i didn't even notice he was on the pitch.

| Interestingly Walters did have the exact same number of tackles (7), missed tackles (2), carries (6), metres made (37) and penalties (1) as Cam Smith.

But given the resilience of the club it doesn't make sense.
Watched the last game in front of south stand yesterday and there is point when walker gets taken out in a tackle and as he is coming round none of other than willing is standing over him dishing out the verbals.
He's such a hypocrite.

Thats true, but stats dont tell the whole story. Smith will get one completed tackle for his try saver, walters will get one completed tackle for when douglas (i think) ran at him and pushed him back several meters after contact until others arrived to help bring him down. Green from hull did the same to him a few times last week, it might go down as a completed tackle but its not good defence imo. The stats say they had the same game, watching the match smith impressed me more.

| When Walters ran it up at the end and dropped it. He had one job just to take it in and keep hold and he couldn't do that. Luckily, they needed 2 tries at that point.

| Think it's all been said on the performance - great gutsy win.
Regarding child and scrums, 3/4 times saints only put 5 in the scrum and child stops the scrum half feeding the ball and calls for another player to pack down. Other teams do the same. It's not junior rugby, for mine, ref should let scrum half feed the scrum and then penalise the team packing 5 down.

| Certainly one of our better league wins in recent years. Good to see Smith and Oledski playing in a big game and doing well. As for Walters, I just don't rate him, but as others say, he's about 7th/8th choice so it doesn't matter much when everyone's fit.

It would be a yes from me.
A few pings from that a game and it would all but disappear within a round of fixtures.
