| Firstly credit the odd few lioners on here who have acknowledged the booing is out of order - the rest of you are a disgrace.
Peacock is spot on to criticise the mindless booing last night......From a Wigan POV though, while the booing is disgraceful its good to see Leeds fans comparing Edwards to Tomkins and suggesting them both being G0b 5hytes as the reason for the abuse!!! The reason for the abuse is clear to see...they are both superb players who you would give your left eye to pay in a leeds shirt!! So stop trying to kid yourself....Edwards was nothing other than exemplary on the pitch throughout his career and the only 'sin' which copped him so much abuse from other fans, as with Tomkins, is that he was substantially better than ANYTHING playing in the other fans teams and this ate away at people!!
Face it, you would give both McGuire and Burrow and probably Sinfield just to have tomkins in your side, and as another poster pointed out on this board, if Heatherington unveiled him as a leeds player on monday you would be creaming yourselves in anticipation

Either way, Jamie Peacock seems to be a little peeved about it.

Perhaps, just perhaps, some fans thought that booing Tomkins would be a laugh.
I didn't boo him, but this just looks like oversensitivity on some Wigan fans' part.

| Hmm.
I remember being sat at Ewood Park watching GB vs NZ a few years back. A load of Stains fans behind us booed every time a Bulls player (yes, we had some internationals in those days before the money ran out...) got the ball. Was pathetic. And that was just one of a number of such examples.
But maybe some of the responses of Leeds supporters on this thread will look a bit pathetic too, in the light of JP's scathing attack on a segment of Leeds fans today? He was clearly sure that Leeds fans were primarily to blame, so who is prepared to gainsay him?
Big shame, whoever did the booing. When they put your country's shirt on, all inter-club hostility should surely be put on hold? Even for (grits teeth) Tomkins.

Spot on the money - I've even been known to clap and cheer Sean Long and Ryan Bailey when in England shirts, also referring to them by their first name at times and then thinking WTF have I just done! Now these players have done far more in their lives and RL careers worthy of booing than Sam Tomkins has done or ever will do, yet once they were in an England shirt I have supported them as they were representing my country, as should anyone.
As pointed out - The only time Long HASNT been boo'd when coming to wigan was when he was in an England shirt!
If this idiotic behaviour continues where will it lead? Every player for England will be boo'd - Wigan fans will start boo'ing McGuire for his cheating in the play offs last year (providing he ever gets back in an Eng shirt ) KR fans will start boo'ing Briscoe for playing for KR, Cas fans start boo'ing Shenton fans for leaving for saints last year...it goes on and on until we have the ridiculous position where every player will be boo'd either because he plays for another club or is better than what other peoples clubs have playing in the same position -
If this happens we might as well not bother - IF YOU WATCH ENGLAND SUPPORT ENGLAND AS A TEAM AND EVERY PLAYER PLAYING FOR THEM REGARDLESS OF CLUB LOYALTIES - IF YOU CANT DO THIS DONT WATCH ENGLAND IMO!!

Perhaps not, but if the England captain and one of our own most respected players speaks out about it, I would have thought it might hit home how ridiculous the situation is.
Obviously not.

I have on a few occasions been to headingley even though not a rhinos fan and really enjoyed the atmosphere and general banter, however after watching and hearing the booing against a player doing his best for England surprised and disappointed me.
To me no matter who it is they should receive backing of all fans when wearing the shirt. Reading some of the posts who I am assuming are Rhinos fans seem to try justify it because its Tompkins, there is no excuse so please do not make yourself look anymore ridiculous than it comes across to outsiders.
Even JP says its bad news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 737347.stm , based on some posters comment about the criticism are you going to condemn JP in the same manner.
A good idea spoiled by a minority.

Yes.
The SS was not populated by Rhinos fans like normal, fans from all teams were in there.
End of story.

| I never said it was populated by just Leeds fans but lets assume the majority were as unlikely you were outnumbered, regardless of which set of so called supporters of England did it does not make it right or are you so stupid to again try justify the booing of an England player, remember the clue is it was an international game not club game.
Get real fella. Either folk support England or do not if not then why go what an idiotic post you made trying to defend the indefensible.

Well he wasn't in the crowd was he, so how could he possibly be in a position to say that.
His point is a valid one about booing England players, but to say it was all Leeds fans would be pretty stupid. That said, I don't actually see a direct quote from Peacock claiming it was Leeds fans, do you?

| From the depth of my sofa I cheered FGB's break and offload....I applauded the interception and superb length of the field try by Tomkins Senior.....I swore at the gormless 50 yard crossfield brainfart from Tomkins Junior.....I smiled at the ironic cheer when he was dumped on the top of his pointy head!
Will I burn in Hell?

Thats pretty much the case at the moment given the pathetic crowd sizes for International Rugby League in this country, there is no appetite for a National RL side and the sooner that the RFL realise this the sooner we can stop wasting money on promoting such ridiculous made-up fixtures as "England vs Exiles" and stop wasting precious bandwidth on Mary-Janes who get all of a strop on when someone boo's their favourite player.
The worlds gone fooking mad.

| Quote ="GCM1980" That said, I don't actually see a direct quote from Peacock claiming it was Leeds fans, do you?'"
I guess you form your own view from this:
Quote ="the hack reporting JP's comment in Sporting Life, seemingly"England captain Jamie Peacock has launched a furious attack aimed at fans of his own Leeds club, labelling them "a disgrace" for booing Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins during the CarPlan International Origin match.
The Rhinos forward was stunned by the reaction of the home supporters among the 14,174 crowd at Headingley while Tomkins was visibly shaken after England's 16-12 defeat by the Exiles.
"I don't mind taking a bit of stick when you are playing at club level but, when you look at the most successful teams in rugby, they've got a quality fan base behind them," Tomkins said.
"We definitely had some genuine fans there cheering for England and probably I was under a slight illusion that there would be more of them.
"But it's a bit of a joke when you're getting booed representing your country on English turf."
Tomkins was one of England's most impressive performers in their courageous defeat but he admits the reaction of the fans took the shine off the occasion.
"It certainly has for me," he said. "It's just not nice and you don't expect it.
"Playing for your national side is completely different to playing for your club and the players themselves have a completely different feel about it.
"We're one team, we're united and we stick together through it and we expect fans to do that as well."
Peacock, too, was taken aback by the booing of his England team-mate and pointed his criticism directly at Leeds fans.
"I think it's pretty disgraceful, to be honest," he said.
"When you come to support England, you should support England no matter who is playing for them.
"I'll be honest. I'm England first and Leeds Rhinos second and I think some other people should get that mentality"
"I take it personally as captain of the team. When you are trying your best for your country and people are booing one of your players who is trying as hard as he possibly can, it's very disappointing."'"
The implication seems pretty clear - although it might not be entirely disingenuous to argue that he does not come right out and say it - that it might be the spin put on it by the hack? But either way, it seems that numerous posters on here do not agree with JP. For my part, I agree with him - and speak as one who has been angry when some misguided Bulls fans have chosen to boo or jeer a player for another club in an international match.
I also speak as someone who has totally lost interest in the international game, I'm afraid.

I think a majority of rugby league fan would disagree with that (obviously with their own club in place of Leeds).
