My brother does exactly the same coaching role as you do from 8's to 12's and he has exactly the same stories to tell, most clubs that they play are great and most of them adhere to the principle of "everyone gets game time" but he always names two clubs in his league and mini-tournaments who have to$$ers as coaches and get up to exactly the same tricks as you described, they fool no-one and they do their own teams no favours at all, if you're trying to build a rugby club from your 8 year olds upwards then its no use just handing four of them over to the colts coach at 18 years of age - the to$$er at the 8's team just won't see that though



I have a friend who has coached and managed amateur football clubs in the Leeds district since the 1970s, he took a bit of a break about ten years ago and then when his own son wanted to play for a local team here (its very local, Wheels knows the ground very well) he found that the youth football team was run by someone who only wanted a small squad of what he considered to be the best players in the district, wasn't interested in anyone else, thought he was Alex Ferguson or something, we're talking 12 year olds here.

My friend set up his own team from the lads who were rejected from the Old Mo... I mean this local team, and ran it for several years until he packed in because of the parents - parents who would dump their kids on him on a training night and ignore his pleas for assistance, but who would then turn up on match days and scream abuse at their own kids all through the game and often do it face to face with him too - eventually he walked and none of the know-it-all parents took up the reins so the club folded.

Yet, on the recent Sky Sports News documentary highlighting the decline in 11-a-side football teams (of all ages, mainly kids), there wasn't that much of a mention of how d*ckhead parents are, quite a lot, to blame. Swearing, shouting and generally been abusive to their own (and other) child(ren) during the game, abusing the referee and coaches, yet refusing to give up 3 hours a week of their own time to take training.

I've seen an under-12's rugby union game, where a parent assaulted the referee because he gave a penalty against his kid. If that's the sort of impression the parents are setting, what chances do the kids have really?

The FIFA rankings are a bit of a joke TBH, however, Greece aren't that bad a side, they were just outplayed by a very good South Korea side yesterday.

Completely agree they were very good although the Aussies proved why they should stick to all the other sports and leave Football well alone.
Thats the Germans and South Korea who have impressed so far everyone else has been ordinary at best apart from a good 2nd half from Bafana Bafana.

Can’t see England doing much in this tournament to be honest. We have a goalkeeper whose incapable and a striker that came second best to Jermaine Beckford earlier this year.

Even more unbelievable is the weather over in that country that is bias to the more sun blessed lands of our rivals. No wonder why we only won this competition in our own country.

Perhaps the most disheartening is the lack of passion shown from the team so far. Whenever a majority of our squad has the heart in it to win is questionable.
