| The only reason. Can see for Mulhern getting in the 17 is that Yates was injured, otherwise to any rationale coach you would have gone with Yates and Mulhern and one of Sinfield and Burrow who I don't think is finished just yet. Sinfield on the other hand is well and truly done.

| It was always going to happen, every team has an off day. We were as poor this week as we were good last. If any opposition coach knows how to unpick Leeds it's Tony Smith and his side did a number on us tonight. The things that disappointed the most were how often we lost concentration and fluffed good position and how unprofessional we were in niggling at the ref, yes he got things wrong, yep they seemed to be more often against us than for us (but I'm looking through blue and amber specs) But we lost that game with out his help, we were bested in the forwards and in the kicking game. But we are still 4 points clear at the top of the league. I just hope this isn't a portent of another disappointing second half of the season. Tonight we were well beaten, hopefully we didn't take any serious injuries and we can get back on track next week. Well done to the Wire

| We were beaten by a better team, a hungrier team and arguably a more desperate team. That said, their game plan was more than aided by an unbelievably inept performance from Child. No great dilemma's otherwise, just not our night

| Well beaten by a much better team. MCDermott took the plaudits quite rightly last week, this week he got it badly wrong. I thought before game it would be wrong to not start Sinfield, the second we were 8-0 down he should have been on. No one was leading that side, they were a disjointed bunch, playing with no direction and no heart. He should have been on there to get a grip of them. Not for flair, although he looked our best player when on, but purely to lead them which was sadly lacking.
I would like them to go with whoever is a bloody winger next week, rather than Watkins, and playing Ablett at centre who is God damn awful. Ablett has been poor in his normal role this season, he looked horrendous tonight at centre.

You were a lot more guilty of offside than we were. Your line speed was ridiculous. Either your players are superhuman or it was illegal. Not complaining about it - Child was weak as hell and would have let us do the same if we'd have been d, but we weren't and Wire were, which is a big reason why Wire won so well.

You should know, you support Leeds.
Its a good job for Warrington that Child didn't penalise them for any of the above. Leeds would have walked it otherwise.

No it wasn't. There was plenty of heart. It was a lethargic display, not heartless, and it was from the whole team not just the forwards.
Not enough numbers in the tackle and not enough numbers in support of the ball carrier.

yes, maybe heartless was the wrong description... not enough vigor then.... you were beat in the collision all night... you struggled to make any ground on the back of that.

Agree with that. You were quicker and stronger than us all night and Clark and Higham ripped us apart in the middle.

Disagree. I don't think it was heartless. If it had we'd have thrown the towel in after 30 mins. We didn't.
We were outplayed. And as I said we were lethargic. Thats not the same as a lack of heart.

| The ghost of McDermott past.... Selecting players to sit out the match while the first choice forwards are obviously out on their feet.
With most agreeing Achurch is not a prop and Mulhern not trusted.....well !!! A stubborness to see the reality of his decisions is disappointing.
He has been strong enough to select Sinfield on the bench: he now has to go one further and select either Burrow OR Sinfield on the bench; not both.
However he probably now has the self justification for 'resting' Sutcliffe next match to avoid that decision.

3-2 to Leeds in first half 7-4 overall. Warrington won the floor all night and James Child aided and abetted Tony Smith's gameplan to slow Leeds' ball down to a crawl

You never replied to my question to you gotcha, do you still believe childs is second best ref in super league even after that??? You clearly haven't watched him this season before making that comment and if you try to back it up now, then you must have some serious issues, I'll be the first to admit we were poor but childs was just as bad as we were. The bloke doesn't deserve to ref in super league let alone a big clash like that

| IMO it is pointless seeking to blame individual players or the coach for this defeat. It was one of those occasions when one team is under par on the night while the other team put in an enthusiastic and almost faultless display add to that a ref who should have been aided by a white stick and past form goes out the window.
Apart from the first five minutes and the Watkins try nothing went right for us so no matter what we tried the momentum remained against us. So perhaps we should just congratulate Warrington and move on.
On the positive side Ward put in his now usual big effort and I thought Achurch went ok.

| I don't think there is too much to worry about from a Leeds perspective, as a previous poster said you just ran into a more enthusiastic team on the night, that's sport it happens, easily the best team in the comp for me. I think that missing half of the best backline in SL doesn't help matters, I love playing Leeds as always get an honest game, no shiiithouse tactics like attacking the standing leg and always classy. I can't see how people can have a pop at Childs to be honest, had no bearing on the game at all.

| My thoughts: The attitude was wrong right from the offset, they didn't look anywhere near as focused as last week - perhaps they thought Warrington were there for the taking? The momentum was lost from the start and was never recovered throughout the game - Warrington appeared to want it more.
Team selection was wrong for me, even last week Ablett showed his days of playing centre are over and to play our most potent attacking player on the wing defies logic. I have suggested playing Hardaker on the wing and Golding at FB. Not ideal but at least disruption is minimised and you do bring Hardaker more into the running game. I would have started Sinfield, he didn't add much when he came on but the game was gone by then. He would have contributed more than Delanney who was - as usual - panting after ten minutes.
Performance was poor - forwards lost virtually every collision and were totally dominated, the rotation of the substitutes didn't help one iota - if you are going to select players they should be good enough to contribute or don't select them. Did McDermott seriously think Leeds had any chance of winning with 20 minutes to go!! so he couldn't risk Mulhern - seriously. Aiton was as bad this week as he was good last week both Clark and Hingham had his number and it caused huge problems down the middle. Peacock looked his age - he cannot be expected to play these minutes week after week and neither can Cuthbertson. If this continues both will unable to make a contribution when it matters after the split. Burrow I am struggling to see what he has to offer unless the pack is totally dominant - in which case his USP is not required. Get him on the coaching staff before somebody else does.
Warrington showed what a good side the are when they get their act together - Myler ran the game MOM by a mile, Sims showed the nastiness you want from a prop, Hill and Harrison also standout performances. Clark put together his best performance I have seen in a Warrington jersey - this is what you could have had!! They will be there or there abouts come the end of season shake up.
On Child he was poor but if you are always losing the collision your PTB will look slow and theirs quick. The forward pass for the second try was a bad miss but the game wasn't lost because of Child's poor display. Warrington had Leeds' number from the start and cruelly exposed Leeds' shortcomings on the night.

I thought he was really inconsistent last night, and ignored some pretty clear calls. Need to see the replay though, as that was at match.
One match though isn't going to form my opinion. Do you think Ablett is an awful player after last night? It works both ways.

To be fair Ablett has been poor all year - a shadow of the player he has been - I would be looking to give him 3/4 weeks off to see if that can freshen him up

Wardy passed his previous best I think, and made 58 tackles last night. But Peacock also 46 tackles, no wonder he looked so buggered.
The stats don't really match the game. We actually had more ball, more carries than Wire did. I suppose a key there is we did almost double the amount of errors as them.

I think you're somehow failing to grasp my point here, you said he is the second best in the league, I said before last night that he's been absolutely terrible all season and he showed that 'form' last night again, he should not be a super league ref IMO, look at hicks performances and look at his, I'd take hicks reffing us over him 7 days a week.

I agree. One of those bad day at the office games. They'll always happen, all that matters is how we bounce back in the next games (something we were very poor at last season but over the last 10 years have otherwise been excellent at)

On sky Phil Clarke argued that pass was OK, completely ignoring that the tackle was on the 20m line and the ball received in front (with no momentum involved as it was a pass out of a tackle by a stationary player). He really does have no limit on his bias
