I can only think of one, in Paul Anderson during his Bradford years,im sure he came through our system but that was pre super league and the academy was not in place then.

Nick Fozzard only played in two Grand Finals with St Helens - 2007 and 2008. IIRC, he ended up on the losing side in both.

Yes. It would have been 22 if I had included Rhodri Lloyd, but he was signed from South Wales and I presume he played in their academy at some stage.

We had 10 academy graduates in our Grand Final 17. How many did you have?
Also, as in 2004 and 2008, every point Leeds scored in the Grand Final was scored by an academy graduate.
Both halves, the hooker, loose forward and entire 3/4 line in the starting 13 were academy graduates.
Sometimes raw numbers don't allow for the significance of the contribution of the academy.
But d!ck measuring between 2 clubs with good academy track records isn't that helpful anyway. My count, Wigan and Leeds academies have provided about half of the England squad this year. Finger pointing and other aspersions might be better directed elsewhere don't you think?

Can you define what constitutes Leeds' heaviest ever defeat at Headingley?
Is it in terms of points conceded or is it in terms of margin of defeat.
Either way despite coming close Wigan's win at Headingley in June satisfied neither.
Or are you using some other less obvious measure?

He meant it more literally. He measured the barometric pressure at pitch level, calculated the weight of a column of air with base 1 foot square on the centre spot and then compared it with identical readings from other Leeds home defeats.
True story.

I thought it would be the defeat when we our players weighed the most. No Nandos that week

I did mean the Super League era as that was the discussion re academy players. Just to go back, I did raise concerns about the lack of talent coming through Leeds from around 2009, and it was G1 who brought this back up.
The point I raised all those years ago as a genuine RL fan was as a concern about the lack of development at Leeds. Thankfully this season things appear to have improved but only time will tell.
I'm really peed off with this U20's decision, even though it will probably help Wigan as they were very strong at U18's last year and have signed 11 or 12 of the best U16 team I have ever seen to further bolster that squad.

| Forgot Dowes....
Still, 15 in the squad this year, and 15 playing elsewhere in Super League.
Personally I'd take a side of:
Smith, BJB, Watkins, Ablett, Hall, Sinfield, McGuire, Bailey, Burrow, Moore, Jones-Buchanan, Clarkson & Ward
over
Mathers, Fox, Walker, Gibson, Broughton, Gale, Tansey, Scruton, Diskin, Carvell, Golden, Netherton, Murrell.
even if the latter would roundly beat some of the SL whipping boy rabble down the table.

All this proud to have academy graduates in the side is fair enough, but in the present era were you influenced by the Leeds way of doing things?

Take solace where you can my friend.
Do you think the Leeds team of 2012 will be remembered for winning their second back-to-back Championship (something no other club has even achieved once) – 5 out of the last 6?
Or the team that suffered the heaviest SL defeat at Headingley?

Academies were also around before the Super League Era.
_____
So not really 'Leeds heaviest =#0000BFever defeat at Headingley' then.
Wigan's 42 point margin of victory (1st June 2012) equalled Leeds' previous 'heaviest' SL Era defeat at Headingley (19th May 2000 - Leeds 2 Bradford 44) - while the 50 point haul remained second only to Bradford's 56 on the 4th August 1996.
__________
Quote ="El Diablo"tvoc, what were Leeds' heaviest home defeats (by both measures)?'"
Leeds' heaviest ever Headingley defeat could be viewed as the 3 - 54 hammering they took at the hands of Bradford Northern during the 1945/46 season (a few days earlier Leeds also went down to arguably their heaviest ever away defeat 71 - 0 at Belle Vue.)
In today's money those results could be interpreted as 4 - 68 and 88 - 0.
(The Queensland touring team also left Headingley with a 2 - 58 win to their credit in 1983 but whether that qualifies as a recognised fixture I'm none too sure.)

Saints did it in 1999/2000. That's why we had to win it three times in a row, to put them properly in the shade.

| They're building a strong looking side. Although they seem to always have 6 or 7 injuries preventing them putting their strongest 17 out, their doesn't look to be much depth in their squad.

From where i am looking 5 or 6 of last season regular first team will be backup and if Scott Prince does sign over the weekend(and its not certain yet) then we will for the first time in many many years have better squad coverage than ever.
I think in some small part Leeds have to be thanked because they ticked our chairmen off big style with the Briscoe affair (Leeds did nothing wrong btw - but we know the alleged story) and he is putting his money where his mouth is to try and knock Leeds off the top of the tree.
It wont be next year but at last we are a club spending money where it counts, I did read early in this forum about Leeds/Wigan youth setups and who is best ect ect and yes your both a benchmark we hope to follow.
