Of course, you're favourites to finish top but I'd suggest you look at Leeds forum up to June in the 2005 season, their lead in the league table and what happened next. A lot could yet happen in this season.

Leeds have blown similar leads atop the table at this stage and won Grand finals, as have Saints.

The thing I have learned, and i suspect most leeds and Saints fans have learned, over the last three years is that the form your team takes into September and October is more important than anything else at all. including league position. Catalan found a run of form and very nearly made the GF from 8th. Leeds have a stated goal of peaking late season every year and do it to perfection.

That is also part of the reason why I don't really see Wigan as as big a threat as Saints. I won't argue that Wigan have been the form team. As I know from watching Leeds these last three seasons it's very, very difficult to maintain that form from beginning to end and i suspect, just my own opinion, that you may have peaked too early.

As you say a long way to go but I suspect we'll have a much better idea in about five weeks time.

Id rather have Wire or Saints coming to the DW than Leeds in week 1 TBH, just because Leeds have shown they have a knack of winning big games, saying that none of them is an easy way out

I dont know why people keep saying Saints have expirence of winning big games as recently theyve lost most of them

Looking at the stats Wire arent our 'bogey team' the Halliwell Jones is, and weve beaten you there twice this year. We even beat you at home the season we nearly went down

Couldn't Wigan's expected home advantage be in doubt with Athletic likely to playing at home the first and 3rd weeks of the play-offs, I'm sure they wouldn't want 2 games in 24 hours on the new pitch they shelled out for ?

Who said finishing in the top 2 was not important, I did say it was important but less vital than under the 8 team system, that is all.

We have only had one year under the 8 team system and while the GF was contested by the top two sides last year, Leeds & Saints, they were by far the best two sides throughout the second half of the season BUT the Catalans made the semi from 8th because of a good run of late season form and the new system being slightly less favourable to the top two sides.

The long & short of it is, if you finish in the top 2 and lose week 1 then you suddenly have quite a fight on your hands!
