| I really don’t know what everyone sees in Bailey, I know that three consecutive Rhinos coaches rate him, I know he has represented his country at its highest level, I know he has 4 Grand Final winner’s rings and I know that, if fit, his name is always on the team sheet but what do these people know?
They obviously don’t know as much as those oracles of all things Rugby on the Red Vee
The thing I really like about Ryan is his ability to get under the skin of both opposition supporters and players without actually doing that much. That in itself is a talent.

| Quote ="RescuedBlue"What happened with Bailey and Walker in 2003 is what swayed everyone's opinion of him. And I won't say any more on that subject.
EVERY single Pro (and amateur for that matter) RL player is brave. I couldn't go out and do what they do. Its a brutal sport at times. As much as I might dislike him, how brave is someone like Sean Long? You get beat up every week by 16stone blokes - its a really tough sport that we love. But they do genuinely put their bodies on the line week after week. Some of them for free. So we know that people who know what they are talking about don't mean it when they say Bailey is a coward. He is clearly hard as f*cking nails.
What I love about Bailey, and what every Leeds hater HATES about Bailey, is the fact that he draws so many penalties from other teams. Bailey aint a coward. Ryan Bailey is one of the most astute forwards knocking about in Superleague. Ryan Bailey could use all his energy to power through 4 tacklers and gain 8 yards. Or he could manipulate his opponent and pull a penalty. Kevin Sinfield would then stick a ball 40 yards in to touch. You then have a raging opponent, and a fresh Bailey. And an attacking position from 15 yards out.
Isn't that a great Rugby League brain? The guy knows how to play the game FFS! And your "rock hard opponents who would have knocked him into next week" clearly know it as well, otherwise they would have done so!
What I love about opposition fans' views is when they compare him to Ricky Bibey
They are obviously very thick and have an agenda towards Bailey, and use the old argument of "well Bibey won stuff too but look at how bad he was"
However - Bailey has now been a regular fixture in the Leeds first team for 8(?) years, played his part in winning FOUR Grand Finals, and has been picked by 3 seperate coaches on the trot.
Really comparable to Bibey!!'"

Not criticising the moderation process or anything but how many threads get locked on the Hull board a day! If they had as many locked cars/houses as locked threads then I guess the crime in the area would plummet.

| Bailey has been a mainstay of the Leeds squad during one of the most successful periods. He does his job quietly, has a very good disciplinary record for one so hated and is an important part of the Leeds unit. He may not make lots of yards with the ball but he wins penalties with his niggling (nothing wrong with niggling by the way). Sometimes he gives silly penalties away but who doesn't.
That's what he does.

Your original post was.
Quote ="Codarmysaint"There was a rugby league forum recently in warrington and a number of players were on the panel, from a number of teams. lets just say they were all less than complimentary about Bailey as a player and a person'"
The only forum recently in warrington was the one involving, Tony Smith, Paul Wood, Lee Briers, Paul Wellens and John Wilkin.
For a start that's only two teams, one of which has deep down instilled jelousy of Leeds and its players.
But more importantly, you expect us to believe that the Man who coached Bailey, continually picked Bailey, and had him in is GF winning team on 2 occassions, talked negatively about him?

| I don't think he is the best player in the world, but in a sallary capped sport he is what all clubs need. He IMO never really lived up to the hype and his early form when he got his gb call up, however I ain't slagging him off. Does his job, and is a good team addition most teams would want him. Not a superstar but won't let u down.

For future Bailey threads can we just put that as a reply and lock the threads. Says all that has to be said.

I don't go in for all of this "criticising the moderation process" claptrap, every RLFans forum is moderated by a range of individuals who all agree between themselves how things should be done - both Hull forums have specific issues with each other and they have to have much tighter controls or both sites would descend very quickly into chaos.
Here, its done by me, sometimes randomly, feel free to criticise, I don't care any more

| Personally I think Bailey is a decent player in a very good side. He'd get into the squad at any other SL club.
He's probably picked as the 'pantomime' villain due to the lack of anyone else being appropriate for the role.

| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Yeah, he tended to reserve his assaults for on the field of play.
Bailey is more like Davidson, only better. I can remember Davidson winding up a young Adrian Morley to the point where Moz got himself sent off. Job done.'"
The person most wound up in that incident was Russell Smith, who must have walked down the tunnel with his red card in his hand.
