| Quote ="Saddened!"He has obvious been identified as a player with potential. He played for Bristol and Leicester earlier in his career an obviously did enough to be signed by Donny. He then impressed someone at Leeds enough for them to sign him.
But it's not a risk. It's not like Leeds are handing him Keith Senior's shirt, salary and ebay login and throwing him into the team. He'll probably spend 6 months in and out of the side then either drift off to the NL or cement a place. If it works out you get a player on the cheap, if it doesn't its not like it's cost you much. He'll be on just enough to make full time professionalism worth a punt, but it won't be a big impact on your salary cap spend.
Maurie Fa'asavalu was identified in a pretty similar way but had less experience in professional sport than Coady does and had the added problem of not speaking English. He turned into an international player and has been an absolute bargain for Saints.
There is still plenty of time and salary cap money for Leeds to make a big signing or two.'"

| Quote ="Andy Gilder"Depends, are you including utility players who can operate in the second row as "second rowers", e.g. Diskin and Senior?'"
No, not for the purpose of the question asked.
Senior should IMO be left to work with his inside men and winger for the full eighty without the burden of shifting in-game to a different defensive and attacking role while someone less able takes his place in the centre.
Diskin will become a virtual spare part as Buderus reaches his full SL potential. Whether that part finds a match in the second row or loose forward is an interesting debating point.

He’s been identified as a player who can cause a few headlines because of where he’s from. Its just a cheap way for Leeds to stay in the headlines thanks to the fall in form. You don’t hear St Helens scoring outposts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines because an ex players son has large thighs. Saints don’t need to because they are still in the challenge cup and residing at the top of the super league. Same can’t be said for Leeds.

But one thing is for certain, there can only be two of them on the pitch at any one time.
But personally, my ideal bench would be
hooker/half back
2nd rower/threequarter

In which case 'ordinarily' you would need three second rowers rather than the two in your previous answer.
Beyond that for a balanced Leeds squad of 21 - 1st team effective - players, (given the personnel in place already) I'd be looking at perhaps:
1 - full back
3 - wingers
3 - centres
2 - halfbacks
5 - props
2 - hookers
4 - second row
1 - loose
with the spare components offering an element of cover in similar positions.

'" Luckily I named 5 contracted 2nd rowers then isn't it, without getting into the realms of threequarters who can cover that position or even our best prop who has often play there with some distinction.
All of these options for the 2 2nd rower spots on the field at any given time. What an abundance.

Only an abundance when the players are surplus to the first requirement of putting out a competitive balanced seventeen each week.

| Regarding todays signing:
The Rhinos are describing the signing of Coadey as a "work-in-progress" , so will not be on mega bucks, hopefully the kid will thrive in the full-time professional enviroment at the club and turn out to be a successful signing for both club and country
I agree that the NL's are littered with players, that, if given the opportunity at a higher level, could make the transition, surely all SL clubs could afford a place in their squad for such a player?
I'd bet that all SL clubs have signed big money players from overseas which have turned out to be a complete waste of time and money, i know that we have in the past.

No place for them in Super League according to some posters on here although I'm sure it'll be different now Leeds have their own 'project.'

| I can't believe you've put Bradley Clyde in there ahead of Brett Mullins.
Bradley tried his nuts off when he was fit to play. The challenge cup game at the Boulevard was a superb display from him.
Mullins did absolutely nothing of note, excpet feed the wallets of Headingley's publicans, if rumours are to be believed.

I actually saw him in the Rhinos 2000 bar once prior to one of the numerous games that he subsequently missed through injury, absolutely Bo110xed prior to kick off
