| Off the bench for Ben Walker. Usually anyway. He scored his 1st try away at Widnes (I think in the game Ben Walker missed a kick infront of the posts) and also scored 2 more at home to Cas the day that GB got hammered by the Aussies down under.

I seem to remember him being named on the wing for the grand final eliminator in 2003, at home V Wigan, but that's not really at the start of his career.

no idea why that thought has come into my head.....perhaps im confusing him with someone else *shrug*'" He played once or twice on the wing in 2003. One at home to Wigan, where Dunemann made a break, and kicked to the corner for McGuire to win the race and scoop the ball up brilliantly (Infront of the North Stand, at what now is the Carnegie Stand End. Sinfield missed the kick and the game was drawn.
Blatant crossing on Dunners' break as well, as my SL tries DVD informs me.

Of those 11 appearances over 2001 - 2002 all bar one were from the bench. The exception was his full debut away at Widnes playing stand off (Matt23 mentioned above) where Leeds' Internationals (Senior, Sheridan and Sinfield) were started on the bench.

You may be spot on LP but for some reason i thought it was mathers on the wing mcguire at fullback!
The reason being i specifically remember mathers taking a bomb on the full out wide and flicking a wonder pass back before he hit the deck to adamson i think!

You're both right and it remains a real bug bear for my records.
Officially Mathers was named at full-back with McGuire on the right wing in place of Calderwood after his hapless show at Odsal the week before.
In reality though, Mathers started on the wing with McGuire at full-back. No question about it and confirmed the following night in the YEP match report.
As my records are purely unofficial I've always gone with how they lined up at kick-off, but that's just me.
Either way it's the only time McGuire has started a game in a position other than in the halves.

i posted this on the saints board a while back, but heres my 2p's worth again
pryce has strengths mcguire has strengths!
pryce is noway better than mcguire and vice versa
pryce, well anderson really is/was awesome at getting pryce running at tierd, disjointed, unorgainsed defences with the quick play the ball. one on one pryce is very good at braking tackles and punching holes. his offload is constant. but against well drilled ,organised defences with slow play the ball he has very little, thats what happend in the world cup and GF 07,08.
pryce for me is awesome at what he does braking tackles and offloading, noway in hanley's class but top draw at sl level and defo has a role for england/gb im just not sure what it is, personally i think at fullback but thats just me
mcguire doesnt have the strength of pryce but is developing and improving other parts of his game, like his long/short kicking and passing where he is already better than pryce imo. mcguire is becoming a true six as he showed in the world cup semi. he hasnt been just a support player for a long time but other fans will always use it against him in pub/forum snipes. the one thing mcguire has over pryce in spades is his posative attitude, he is one of the nicest blokes you could meet and is always looking to better himself on and off the pitch
mcguire has out shined pryce enough when it has mattered the most in various big games at club and international level so for anyone to say pryce is better imo is wrong

Nowadays from a labyrinth of spreadsheets. Keeping basic records from Leeds games is just something I've done for the past 30 years. Pre SL they're far from complete and always will be because it's just a bit of a hobby and I know my limits.

CMR got there first. You'll have to fight him for them.
I'm expecting big things from the new official site's promise of 'in depth' stats. A club of Leeds' standing deserves a significant on-line stat presence and it's one that it has always sadly lacked.

| One interesting stat from last year is that McGuire's % missed tackle rate was actually only negligibly worse than Gareth Ellis's. Not sure how well this reflects on Ellis mind - that said, I seem to recall the figure being more than twice as good than for Sean Long

I remember the game, and you've already agree with my thoughts on how they lined up.
Given that, how do you record the line-up's from 2007 when Diskin was out, such as Millenium Magic? I've got the teamsheet for that game and it states that Kirke was playing at hooker, but I always thought Sinfield covered that role during the games.
