| No announcement on a vice captain though which would've been the interesting one (as McGuire was obvious for captain) in terms of it hinting who'd take over as captain long term potentially.

| Not surprised and hopefully he'll do a brilliant job.
Printer- 100% agree re-VC not being announced id have thought he would be Burrow but also wouldn't be surprised to see it passed to a younger member of the Team.

| He deserves the appointment and he had a very good season last year ,he's 33 now I wonder how long he can continue his form? I would love to see him collect a trophy before he finishes

I watched the CC final again the other day and straight away after the first try from Delaney, whilst Sinfield is down the other end lining up the conversion it's McGuire back in the Leeds half gathering everyone together dishing out instructions and leading the group, something he's done on many occasions over the years with Sinfield 50m away lining up a kick.

| I don't like how he bleats at referees & hopefully he will temper that. But he is hardly alone as a captain if he does - O'Loughlin (who looks as if he is about to cry every time Wigan are penalised), Brough & Briers have been relatively successful in that mould.

I've just listened to him on the Website and he did say I'll have to watch my temper at times.I think he'll be ok

Well I certainly will not be writing off JJB so easily. Just because he has had an unlucky run of injury does not mean it will continue. Nobody in the squad plays with more intensity, energy and enthusiasm so he will remain one of the first names on the team sheet when he returns. So his leadership qualities will be a big help to McGuire.

I would be tempted to pick 2 or 3 vice captains because more rotations are likely this year plus the usual batch of injuries. This would also give the opportunity for one of the youngsters to get some experience.

I'm not writing off JJB one iota. But he's 34, he's recovering from a ruptured quad and he's likely to miss the first one-two months of the season. Even when he's fully match fit (maybe another month) he's going to be vying for back row places with Ablett, Ferres, Cuthbo and others. Unless you see him playing prop for Peacock-esque stints? Realistically he could never have been named as captain even though I agree 100% with your assessments of his qualities and leadership.

Yes he will miss maybe a couple of months but under the new set up it is a long long season and hopefully he will return fresh at a time when we may well have another bout of injuries. So I see him figuring strongly in the important end of the season. I am happy with Mags as captain and would make JJB one of say 3 vice captains along with Burrow and Ward.

I'll drink to that. And when it's his turn to bow out he deserves the same send off as JP, KS and KL enjoyed.

I hope so. His enthusiasm and charisma would be great in the Foundation getting people involved.

| Well deserved - his contribution to the team's success over the past 11 years matches anyone.
A fitting choice hopefully he will continue to the be inspirational leader he has been for the last few seasons.
A great player without doubt one the 10 best players of the whole SL era

| I think Danny will be fine as captain. I'd like to see JJB as club captain and danny as on-field captain. JJB really sums up what it means to be a rhino

| I can see no reason why he won't do an excellent job... Looking forward to seeing how Leeds go this season, big holes to fill and i'm sure all opposition fans will be curious to see how Leeds rearrange themselves.

| Been a great player now for over a decade and changed his game as pace diminished. Great in big games and will be sorely missed when retires. I think he will be rightly proud to lead the team and for all he has done deserves all Leeds fans support and a bit of slack if he does throw a small wobbler now and then. This new less experienced group may need to hear a bit more emotion.

| Having a good captain is probably less important than having a number of leaders across the team. It would be unfair to blame McGuire for not being as good a captain as Sinfield when he also won't have Peacock around. Having said that the squad has enough experience to get by IMO.

He is no spring chicken and he will become even more injury prone/take longer to heal as time marches on. The guy needs some luck on the injury front, but having him around the squad in any capacity is a boost - he IS Mr Leeds.

My comments are not based on sentiment Chunky just the fact that when on the field JJB still leads our defence, leads our kick chase, always puts in a decent tackle count and is eager to take his share of the hard yards despite being no spring chicken. His committed style of play will always put him at greater risk of injury but that is part and parcel of the man and one that was hewn off a similar block to JP. Until he hangs up his boots he will always be challenging for a place in the team IMO

| at 35 JJB will likely play on until the end of 2017 and then call it a day, or one more bad injury will get him first and force his hand.I hope it is the former and he gets to go out on his own terms. I also agree with Juan that there is still a guaranteed place in the 17 when he gets himself fit for me, so having him around still is by no means built out of sentiment.
