They all have "worth" in terms of contracts etc and GH obviously didn't think scruton was worth what bradford offered whereas bailey accepted the offer that the club deemed his worth.
You know the sleeve won't "break the bank".

Bailey has had one big performance this season and it wasn't at Knowsley Road.

Statistically speaking Bailey compares reasonably favourably with Luke Burgess. Slightly less on the yardage and fewer offloads but more tackles and far fewer misses and a lower error count.
What the stats don't show is the aggression, the niggle, the talking. They don't show the speed of PTBs either. There does seem to be an obsession with yardage and not a whole lot more.
As Gareth alludes - he's won 3 Grand Finals, played in 4, played for GB and been a regular under 3 different coaches in the last 6 years. I'm surprised they haven't found out this lazy player who doesn't look interested. Dean Lance would have sorted him out.'"
I'm having trouble with this post.
You seem to be suggesting that the OPTA stats are meaningless in isolation and that the supporters know less than the professional coaches ?
That can't be right, surely ?

Definitely right in the second part.
For the first part, I'd say stats are useful in adding some objectivity to a comparison but its tempting to view them out of context by ignoring, say, the performance of the team played in, the amount of game time etc. For example a player who makes more tackles per game than another might do so because he's a workhorse but he might also do it because he plays in a poor team that struggle to retain posession or becuase he plays 80 minutes each week.
There's also an awful lot that stats don't show or that might be captured by teams but isn't available at the Superleague website.

I'm with you on this one. Each player has a different worth to the game. These values are not necessarily shown in stats or visible to supporters whose knowledge of the game is not that deep. Depending on the game plan, a prop who makes contact, then trudges 3 or 4 mopre yards slowly with men on him, isn't necessrily as useful to a team, as someone who hits the line, takes contact, and gets the ball played quickly. Especially where you rely on a quick PTB to get a roll on.
Basically, Peacock is rubbish. Bailey = god

| Good to see the usual culprits defending the indefensible - good old Ryan plays the ball quickly? Its a good fooking job, he's on the deck before he even hits the defensive line.
Paul Sculthorpe summed him up perfectly before putting big bad Ryan on his backside.
And who can forget his run round the back of Leeds players cowardfest at Knowsley Road, pure carry on film that one!!

| Thought Bailey was dire until he re appeared after getting a bang on the head.
Maybe that helped
Tried to gee the team up a bit and put in one or two decent hits.
Was far too predictable in his first stint and fell off tackles except when he was third man in!
Diskin looked dis interested for large parts of the game and Donald was woeful IMO.
Burgess`s defence was good not sure I would say he took over Peacocks role though.
Ball retention is similar to Thackrays unfortunately.
Thought Ali, JJB and Kylie did well.
Any news on Abletts injury?

So as a player at dummy half, would you rather be picking the ball up with markers not square, and a retreating defensive line, or be 3 yards forward against a flat set defense?
You are so lame its untrue Richie. I accept that Bailey is not a great player, but he is effective and good value for money.

| For me Bailley is a bit of an enigma. His size and aggresive reputation are not backed up by the yards he makes forward, and yet he still gets in the faces of the opposing players.
Defensively, I'm not too bothered whether he's 1st, 2nd or 3rd into the tackle, as long as he does get in. And he's proved more than capable of putting in big hits that raise the whole team.
On balance, I'd rather see him in the squad, than playing elsewhere.

You aren't very good are you at this are you, clearly a jump on the bandwagon merchant when SL started.
I tell you what I want, I want a player who breaks or pushes the defensive line backwards to gain momentum and disorganise the opponents defensive line, I don't want a player who fails to do anything other than fall over of be driven backwards.
Sculthorpe's view remains far more creditable than anyone else on this board.

Your comprehension skills are that of a 7 year old with learning difficulties. I would love a player who breaks the line, and pushes them back. Luckily we have plenty of players who do that. There is more to the game than just busting tackles, and there are plenty of people knocking round in SL who can bust a tackle, but have little else to their game.
I wouldn't expect you with your little knowledge of Rl to understand some of the finer points of the game, but you can't just look at one play in isolation. Player A makes a bust on tackle 3 because player B has got a quick PTB and the line is not organised.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Ryan Bailey most people know he can be, but to suggest he is not worth a place in the team is ludicrous. He has barely missed a game for 7 years when available.
I see your Sculthorpe and raise you a Smith, Noble & McClennan
