Suggest something simple like:
1 point for correct placing at and of 23 rounds
2 points for correct placing top 4. Bonus point if all top 4 correct
1 point for each correct team from middle 8's
4 points for correct challenge cup winner
5 points for correct Grand Final winner.
Total max points 34

It's tricky, but what I would suggest is the "usual" scoring system for the selections after 23 rounds (ie. 0 points for getting the selection correct, 3 points for being 3 positions out etc.)

Then MINUS two points for each of the top 4 correctly positioned (MINUS one point for getting a top 4 team right but in the wrong position), MINUS one point for each of the "returning to SL" teams correctly identified, and MINUS three points for each of the GF and CC winners.

Lowest score wins. (I'll be nowhere near.)

Looking at the predictions I'd say Warrington were the 'best' rated. Most had them top or top 2. No one had them outside the top 4.

Leeds made a mockery of a few who put them 6th.

A few of us placed too much hope In Salford and underestimated Cas achieving despite their losses.

This has been the Vulcan's final flying season (final Vulcan - indeed final four jet engined all British design and build - flight was in fact today (Wed) so I'll shortly be getting some of my spare time back again. This season's rugby records are basically still on paper so already got a job on.

First off while I get my head around how to work in the post Round 23 elements I thought we could have a look at the table in the form it has follwed in the past: so results as at Round 23 only:

1) All entries must contain 12 unique and/or clearly identifiable teams

2) Scoring System: Correct position scores 0, 1 away from correct position scores 1, 2 away scores 2 etc

The aim is to achieve the lowest score. Tie-Break - In order of most correct positions (which is shown in brackets on the table) - then in date order of entry if still tied.

Any mistakes highlighted will be corrected once checked.

*There was a little latitude given this year with it being a new format with an assumption that both batleyrhino and Biff Tannen intended their 1-4 to also count as their Play-Off predictions (full predictions otherwise) and to Old Feller with his 8-11 + Leigh read as 9-11 + Leigh.

**The provided Garry Schofield wasn't a full entry in terms of the new format adopted here but included as reference - similarly deslawson was included but both only really relevant on the 1st table provided yesterday.

So congrats to Smokey TA - our 2015 Champion – and all those who took part

Total numbers were down this year - losing 24 and gaining/regaining 8 - hopefully numbers will upturn for the next comp when it reappears sometime between Christmas and New Year.

Thanks to Jonesy's a Legend for instigating and not letting it fade away and this year also to craigizzard for providing an easy to follow scoring system which hopefully will endure unti the next RFL upheaval which is never far away.

Many thanks for doing the scoring yet again tvoc,i don't mind reeling the comp out every year as that is the easy part, whereas how you work those scores out is well out of my league pal

i can't fathom as to why so many regular posters on southsatander freely tell everyone how it is after the event but don't wish to offer their opinions prior to the season started in what is only a "bit of fun competition",perhaps they can be referred to as hind site experts

perhaps some posters take themselves far too seriously?

Top four only an additional -1 for a correct placing and you only had Wigan in 2nd

Middle 8's points only awarded to teams coming up that appeared in them, ie you had to first predict a SL team placing 9-12 therefore you scored -2 in that category for Hull KR and Widnes.

(BTW SmokeyTA would have also gained an extra point for Hull FC staying in SL)

That's how I scored everyone - we can debate if the scoring system needs tweeking for next season.
