If that had happened in Leeds town on sat nite Garbutt would be up before the beek charged with GBH,
But the RFL just give him a 2 match ban , which gives cart blanch for any other player in the super league to do the same to any other player and only get a 2 match ban.
He Garbutt was lucky, he only broke his nose and not his jaw or cheeckbone or eye socket for that matter.

It also turned out to be Hoppa's last ever game. He copped a ban for around 17 matches IIRC during which time he was sacked by Manly. Took up a bit of boxing after that, though UFC or MMA (did they exist back then?) might have been deemed a more apposite career option.

Flower hit a player who is about a foot smaller and 10 stone lighter whilst he was out cold (after being punched by Flower). Garbutt punched a fellow prop because he saw him slap his mate. Huge difference.

Reading through the replies, you would think Tamou had knocked the innocent Galloway out, and Garbutt had run in to save the day.

The reality, Galloway throughout the game had been taking things to far on the ground, giving facials and choking players, causing pushing and shoving on a few occasions which escalated into Tamou giving him a little slap on the cheek in the last ten mins.

That's as far as it would have gone until Garbutt runs in and sucker punches, yes it was a sucker punch and breaks Tamou nose.

Anyone who thinks a sucker punch is acceptable epitomises the culture that needs to be stamped out of RL.

I would agree if Garbutt had knocked Tamou out with the punch then followed it up with another whilst he was out cold on his back but that didn't happen did it.

the game has gone more professional,what a load of rubbish u call a spade a spade cos it is one rugby league will always be the same which is about getting one over on your opponent and if that means via skill or looking after yourself and teammates during the game you do so.

I was proud of Garbutt, saw his mate get punched, exacted immediate retribution face to face.
